Jewel, 'Here's Hope' Aids Effort to Combat Child Hunger

Valory Music Co.

Jewel is among the artists contributing her time and talents to help keep American children from going hungry. The singer is taking part in ConAgra Foods' Child Hunger Ends Here campaign, now in its third year, by contributing an original song, 'Here's Hope,' and exclusive video content now available for free at the official Child Hunger Ends Here website and at the singer's official site. Also participating in the initiative are artists Owl City and Jay Sean. Aided by their efforts and by support from the public, ConAgra Foods is working toward an overall goal of donating five million meals during this school year, in addition to their Foundation's $10 million, 5-year commitment to Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

"A lot of people think child hunger is something that happens in other countries, they don't realize how prevalent it is here in the United States," Jewel tells The Boot of her motivation for becoming involved. "It affects our kids right here in our backyard. There are 16 million who don't know where their next meal is coming from. It's not homeless kids. It's not kids whose parents don't have jobs. It's families that are really struggling with the economy and having to choose between the medication they need or groceries they need over the weekend. A lot of these kids will get a hot meal at school and that's it."

Jennie Garth Reality Show to Air on CMT

Charles Eshelman, FilmMagic.com

She may have shot to fame in 'Beverly Hills, 90210,' but Jennie Garth's heart is in the country. The newly single actress has teamed with CMT for 'Jennie Garth: Little Bit Country,' a reality show about life with her three daughters, as they leave L.A. for their Santa Ynez Valley, Calif., farm.

"Being out here alone with the girls is not going to be easy, but I know it's the right thing for us right now. I feel it in my heart," the 39-year-old says in an exclusive clip from the show. (Watch it below).

It was just this week that Jennie and her husband of 11 years, 'Twilight' actor Peter Facinelli, announced they are getting divorced. The show will reportedly tackle that dramatic subject, though Facinelli is not expected to appear on camera.

Taylor Swift: 'Hunger Games' Songs Were 'Like a Vacation'

Jason Merritt, Getty Images

Although Taylor Swift's songwriting stock-in-trade has been penning confessional songs about her own past, the superstar entertainer's latest tunes, 'Safe & Sound' and 'Eyes Open,' were written for a fictional character from the future, Katniss Everdeen, lead character of the highly-anticipated film, 'The Hunger Games.' The exercise was a nice change of pace for the 22-year-old.

"Slipping into her mind was such a wonderful break," Taylor tells Rolling Stone. "It's pretty intense writing about my own life, my own struggles. It was almost like a vacation to get to write from someone else's perspective."

Kix Brooks Interview: Country Legend's Career Comes Full Circle

Robert Ascroft

Long before Kix Brooks' career exploded with the success of Brooks & Dunn, the Shreveport, La., native was earning a reputation as one of Music Row's most talented songwriters and making inroads on the country charts as a solo act. With 'New to This Town,' Kix returns to the Billboard country chart with his first solo single since 'Sacred Ground' hit the chart in 1989.

"I'm excited to get it out there," Kix tells The Boot. "It's been a real challenge because you want to do something that is fun, exciting and different. For a creative person, that's the kind of challenge you are always looking for. From that standpoint, this has been a great endeavor and I've really enjoyed the creative process."

The transition to solo status has been eased by the fact that Kix has continued to work with many of the musicians he's known for years. "I got pretty much my old band back together," he says. "I have a couple of new guys, but it's a lot of the old guys that played with Brooks & Dunn. Danny Milner actually played bass with me and all through the Brooks & Dunn years and was in my band when I had a solo career back on Capitol, so we both seemed to have come full circle. I'm looking forward to getting out in clubs and small places and just jumping back in the saddle and riding some more."

Josh Turner fills Kathie Lee Gifford's shoes so well, they've asked him to do it again. The country star will co-host the final hour of NBC's 'Today' show with Hoda Kotb on Monday, March 19, starting at 10:00 AM ET.

"I'm looking forward to co-hosting again with my beautiful Egyptian goddess!" jokes Josh, who had terrific chemistry with Hoda when he co-hosted last year. (Watch a clip here.) "It's always a blast for me."
