IT’S A WRAP
Just to let you all know I’ve just finished the last day of principal photography on SH2. It’s been both fantastic and challenging. Surrounded by great people with enormous talent who kept me on track throughout. How the final film hangs together, I won’t know for a while, but I’m pretty certain it’s going to at least look amazing. Give me about 5 months of post production for editing, fx and sound and then I’ll know more.
5 months later…

I was so excited when I heard there was going to be a movie, words can barely describe how utterly giddy I am now.
Cant wait for Revelation!

To be fair, reusing old tracks from the game would be kinda cheap and would take away from the experience. Still I hope if they cant use the game tracks, they should remix some, maybe re imagine some iconic tunes.

me too, like they did at the first movie..they should make a remix of “final boss” from silent hill 3 (“kill god”) (even though there was an awesome remix of it at the first movie)..

Kyle said this on June 8, 2011 at 2:22 pm |
I would agree that 2012 would be a good guess because obviously they have to add the music, and the special fx, and tweek the 3D till its perfect, and cut the film down to a 2 hour format, or whatever runtime they’re aiming for, and produce a version of the movie that fits the runtime that the producer(Michael) and the studio(People who funded) are happy with.
Sounds like MIchael is going to be busy.

Please heed my words.

Speaking of which, lets play a speculation game.
Who else thinks Claudia won’t die the same way as she does in the game in the film?
I wonder if she’l indirectly be shot by Heather, or randomly killed by a Pyramid head?
Or if the *god* is birthed by alternate means, maybe that will kill her?
Matthew said this on June 2, 2011 at 1:15 am |
i don’t have any theories about claudia actually, but i’m interested with a photo from woodbine mall about some balloon with “happy birthday heather” and “happy birthday alessa” on it. the photo doesn’t look like taken from an otherworld scene, so i guess it’s about heather’s flashback about alessa’s and her birthday, so that means heather is no reincarnation of alessa/cheryl, but heather is alessa’a sister/friend/family/something like that.. i don’t like this theory though..
Adisa said this on June 2, 2011 at 3:39 am |
Well, in the first movie, Alessa was explaining to Rose everything while she was watching it, and it was not necesary a flashback of Rose.
That scene with those balloons can be one of those “white flashbacks” like the one from the Silent Hill Movie.
alice said this on June 5, 2011 at 9:20 pm |
In only thing i think is in the end, I hope it’s not like the final “normal”, ie I would not like that the movie ends with Heather saying “blondes have more fun”,I would like an end as the final “Posession”.

Michael, I have an inquiry. Why isn’t Silent Hill 2 on this list of upcoming SONY films? http://www.sneakpeek.ca/2011/05/sony-pictures-release-schedule-may-26.html
All the films to be aired on the rest of 2011 to the start of 2013 are listed there. Was Silent Hill 2 pushed back for a late 2013 release? I certainly hope not! Please say something
Frank said this on May 29, 2011 at 7:09 pm |
I don’t think so. The reason why it is not listed on the schedule is because Sony Pictures is not the one releasing Silent Hill: Revelation. Davis Films is the one releasing the film.
Mohammad said this on May 29, 2011 at 8:38 pm |
I think it’s Lionsgate releasing it :p
Chewy said this on May 29, 2011 at 10:12 pm |
Pretty sure it’l be Tristar again, as Davis Films worked with Tristar to release the first Silent Hill movie worldwide.
Matthew said this on May 29, 2011 at 11:13 pm |
Columbia TriStar is owned by Sony.
The reason it’s probably not listed there is because the movie doesn’t have a firm release date set yet. They won’t announce that for quite some time.
Johnno said this on June 1, 2011 at 4:36 am |
Yes and those companies can release films seperately. Tristar can release Silent Hill 2 without it needing to be on Sonys website.

I look foreward to the new movie and game too!
Working on a film is difficult and we all appreciate the effort you put into it.
Games and movies are different mediums and should be treated differently, so don’t listen to certain people who’s already judging your movie for not being EXACTLY like the game, Mr. Bassett.
By the way, I think it would be worth it if Heather was all bubbly and idiotic, just as long as she looked like the game.(sarcasm)
Lila said this on May 24, 2011 at 10:38 pm |
Sad to see the Downpour game looks like a mix of dirt rally and mortal kombat.
I hope the movie will be tolerable, Heather doesn’t look like Heather tho and that made me already not hopeful of this.
Friends you need to remember this is business. They’re not doing it because they love Silent Hill, they’re doing it to make profit.
SH2 and SH3 remain the only truly good Silent Hills, forever.
Joonas said this on May 23, 2011 at 8:04 pm |
Hmm – if they only want to make a profit with the film, wouldn’t they have cast Megan Fox or a vapid rising Hollywood bimbo as opposed to a relatively unknown actress like Adelaide Clemens? Who by the way, looks like she’s done a stellar job with the role.
Caroline said this on May 24, 2011 at 11:24 pm |
I think I also meant to say that making a profit has to be a consideration for this film or any although there are many godawful ways that can be done and I don’t feel the team behind this film have fallen prey to that (that’s why I mentioned Megan Fox – nothing personal but she’s popular with a certain demographic and would be mis-cast here- yikes:) Profit is good in the sense it allows a franchise to continue and films to be made in future so it has to be considered, but I feel that staying true to the intent and special meaning the games have for their players has been preserved here as well.
Caroline said this on May 25, 2011 at 12:25 pm |
You’re wrong.
Marcos said this on May 25, 2011 at 7:52 pm |
Why are some people hating? Adelaide Clemens looks a lot like Heather in this movie, and simply put if they went with someone with more acting experience they may not of got someone close to Heathers age in the movie. I would rather see a young 20s actress play Heather, instead of a 30s actress that looks *young*.
Adelaide should be given a chance to prove shes a decent actress, just because shes unknown to some, it doesn’t make her bad.
Look at the Resident Evil films, Mila isnt an A list actress, probably a C or D list yet these movies make hundreds of millions in the boxoffice.
Judging by the performance of the first Silent Hill film, I think the creators would be happy speanding 50 million and getting 50 million in profit after all the deductions are done.
Speaking of which Adelaide Clemens is beautiful, certainly some eye candy there, she 21 according to Imdb.
Matthew said this on May 25, 2011 at 10:19 pm |
You also are wrong, I did not say anything about Adelaine, you’re taking the wrong direction.
Marcos said this on May 26, 2011 at 12:45 am |
I’m not wrong about anything. I added my comment to the end of the discussion, being polite as I am, as I noticed a lot of negativity from some people.
Basically I didn’t aim that comment at you.
Sorry for the confusion Marcos
Matthew said this on May 26, 2011 at 2:34 am |
hey Matthew – not sure if you were directing that at me but I was actually defending Adelaide in that role and saying she was the perfect fit for it. Would have been a disaster if they had cast an A-list actress – I prefer seeing new or emerging actors myself – was being sardonic but it’s hard to convey that in writing.
Caroline said this on May 26, 2011 at 3:56 pm |
No problem, I thought that you answered to me, because I have nothing against Adelaide. Actually I meant to issue a profit, never mind. Confusion cleared up.
Marcos said this on May 26, 2011 at 3:59 pm |
That’s one problem with the written word Marcus – it’s only 20 something percent of total communication so easy to mis-read someone’s comments – I think we were all confused in that thread! Next time I’m being a smartass I’m using a happy face:) All good – glad we all agree she’s awesome and while profits matter, they’re not the whole story either.
Caroline said this on May 26, 2011 at 4:44 pm |
Yeah sorry for the vagueness, it was mostly aimed at Joonas, and one or two other comments I’ve read on here. Not anything Caroline or Marcos said anyway.
I think some people were just ridiculusly negative, with comments like she doesnt look like Heather thus the film will suck, and stuff like that.
Matthew said this on May 26, 2011 at 8:28 pm |
Yes, but its a REMAKE, its not the game itself transformed into a movie, thats why Hetaher isnt Heather from the game.
Its not for business principally, its to make something different, a new story.
alice said this on May 24, 2011 at 11:26 pm |
Like I’ve been saying, Heather may not look like exactly Game-Heather but as long as she acts like her, there isn’t a problem.
And who cares if they are doing it for a profit? Obviously if they want movie they will make a GOOD movie that people and fans will actually want to see.

What Malcolm McDowell said about his role in the movie.
“I enjoyed that very much. It’s part 2 of Silent Hill and all that. I just really did one major piece in it. I play this weird guy who’s blind in a prison cell, with a chain. Scary. It was fun to do. I loved doing it. I just went in for a week, did it, and “Bye bye.” I’m sure it’ll be good, because this is one of the better ones of that genre of movie. So I think it’ll be good.”
Kyle said this on May 19, 2011 at 2:35 am |
Sounds like the movie will take elements from the game and mostly run with its own story, if this, and the mall stuff is anything to go by.
I like this, although it could either turn out very bad, or very good. I doubt Michael would put this much effort into something bad, so im leaning towards good.
After all, if we knew everything that was going to happen in the movie before it screened, it would be less fun to watch, am I right?
Matthew said this on May 20, 2011 at 11:17 pm |
Well even in the game we only encounter Leonard Wolfe in one area so his role was always small. You mostly would just read abut him or hear about him from Claudia and Vincent.
Johnno said this on May 23, 2011 at 5:34 pm |
Had to refresh my memory a little but if the *prison* statement is true, is he speaking about Brookhaven Hospital? I’m unsure what context he’s speaking about, he may be calling a padded room or something in a hospital a prison, hard to say..
Anyway I thought his role in Silent Hill 3 was more important than that, she did get the Seal of Metatron from him
The whole thing was rather fruitless for Heather, so I’m assuming Michael will be giving Leonard more of a role, what with Leonard disliking Claudia.

I was wondering Michael, assuming Silent Hill gets another film, and you’re the director/writer, do you have any plans to bring Adelaide Clemens back? What I mean is, is there a possibility for her to reprise her role as Heather, even if its minor?
Also, sorry about speaking about the mall stuff, guess that was spoilerific. People have pics and info from the place posted online, which is where I sourced the info from, must say you did a brilliant job with the place from what I hear.
Matthew said this on May 17, 2011 at 9:20 pm |
Congrats on wrapping principal photography of the film. I know it was a gargantuan undertaking with 3-D, but you had some ace people working with you on all fronts, i.e., Malcolm McDowell (GREAT choice – I also love him as President Eden in Fallout 3), Carrie-Anne Moss, the production crew, etc. Looking forward to seeing it.
I’d also say that you may want to get A LOT of sleep and rest before plunging into editing and post-production, as I’ve heard that editing for 3-D is basically like editing two movies in one AT THE SAME TIME. Also, folks, let’s remember that he only got PRINCIPAL photography done – that doesn’t even include any pick-up shots or any re-shoots that may or may not have to be done due to things like test audiences, studio demands, and the like.
Given that fact, here’s how I think the timeline will manifest itself:
a)5 or more months – complete post-production (incl. any reshoots, pickup shots, ADR, and any other shooting)
b)2 months before film release – Announcement Trailer;
c)1 month before release – Teaser Trailer
d)1 weeks before release – Theatrical Trailer
I’ll be checking back in to see how things are going and looking forward to seeing the finished product. Take the time you need to take, Michael, as I’ve heard that editing a 3-D movie, is like editing two films at the same time, since basically you’re blending two images into one composite image. Good luck with everything.
Sincerely,
Critical Eye

I know that maybe sometimes it was not easy for you after long days of filming to hear some comments here, and dealing with fans like me, I know that sometimes my comments were perhaps somewhat hard, or hasty, but having kept this space and this direct contact is really valued and appreciated, I do not know how others have done or would do something similar, so I just wanted to say thanks.

Take your time, Mr. Bassett! Make it look splendid for the release! I’m glad the shoot went well, and I wish the best for the post-production!

So, still no word on a composer for the soundtrack yet? But, man………….you guys busted butt on getting this wrapped up so quick for principal photography. Shows that you picked all the right people for casting and crew to get it done so quick for on location shooting, even with the snow storm. Congrats!!!!

It’s got Malcolm McDowell in it, of course it’s going to be amazing.
