IT’S A WRAP

Just to let you all know I’ve just finished the last day of principal photography on SH2.  It’s been both fantastic and challenging.  Surrounded by great people with enormous talent who kept me on track throughout.  How the final film hangs together, I won’t know for a while, but I’m pretty certain it’s going to at least look amazing.  Give me about 5 months of post production for editing, fx and sound and then I’ll know more.

  1. 5 months later…

  2. Have I missed something? Where is the trailer?

  3. I remember watching my brother playing this game for hours on end when I was little.
I was so excited when I heard there was going to be a movie, words can barely describe how utterly giddy I am now.

    Cant wait for Revelation! :)

  4. Lisa will appear in the film??
I mean … If she appears in some kind of memory…

  5. Lisa will appear in the film??
I mean … If she appears in some kind of memory

  6. Did any other fans of Sean Bean see this news?
    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3637800/Sean-Bean-stabbed-in-row-over-model-girlfriend-April-Summers.html
The poor guy was stabbed in an arguement by someone, thankfully Sean is alive and well, hopefully to do more Silent Hill films.

  7. Michael Can you put this song in the final credits? is a tango of end of silent hill 1 i believe is perfect to your movie :D if you can i aprecciate it :D

all my blessed to you im a big fan of the game :D

Name of the artist: Vanesa Quiroz

Name of the song: Esperándote (waiting for you)

    • Sorry to disappoint you. Michael specifically stated he doesn’t want to reuse game music material. He wanted to create something new for the movie.

      • Right

        • To be fair, reusing old tracks from the game would be kinda cheap and would take away from the experience. Still I hope if they cant use the game tracks, they should remix some, maybe re imagine some iconic tunes.

  8. Via his twitter

“Vacation over. Back in Toronto. Time to start post production and get this beast into shape.
    Twitter for BlackBerry® • 6/6/11 2:49 PM”

So I can only assume that by October we’ll maybe see a trailer and the movie will be released in the summer???

    • I would agree that 2012 would be a good guess because obviously they have to add the music, and the special fx, and tweek the 3D till its perfect, and cut the film down to a 2 hour format, or whatever runtime they’re aiming for, and produce a version of the movie that fits the runtime that the producer(Michael) and the studio(People who funded) are happy with.

Sounds like MIchael is going to be busy.

  9. I hope the “phonecall” from SH3 will be in the movie as well :P

  10. IT’S A WRAP!!!

  11. Michael, I really hope you did your homework on Silent Hill before shooting this movie. If you turn it into a 3D action film with gunblasts and cheap jumps, this movie will crash and burn, and THOUSANDS of true SH fans will be irrevocably disappointed in you.

    Please heed my words.

    • Read back on some of the past entrys on here, Michael knows the game/story. Thus why he even mentioned to everyone not to expect a like for like adaption(As in the film following the story of the game completely).

Speaking of which, even bad movies can make lots of money, see Resident Evil. lol

I personally have high hopes for this film.

  12. I am soooooo excited. I already made plans with a few friends to see the midnight show!!!!! whenever the movie is released :)

  13. Michael J. Bassett you fox you! Saw you on Konami’s E3 show along with Heather! :D

  14. Speaking of which, lets play a speculation game.

Who else thinks Claudia won’t die the same way as she does in the game in the film? :P

I wonder if she’l indirectly be shot by Heather, or randomly killed by a Pyramid head?

Or if the *god* is birthed by alternate means, maybe that will kill her?

    • i don’t have any theories about claudia actually, but i’m interested with a photo from woodbine mall about some balloon with “happy birthday heather” and “happy birthday alessa” on it. the photo doesn’t look like taken from an otherworld scene, so i guess it’s about heather’s flashback about alessa’s and her birthday, so that means heather is no reincarnation of alessa/cheryl, but heather is alessa’a sister/friend/family/something like that.. i don’t like this theory though..

      • Well, in the first movie, Alessa was explaining to Rose everything while she was watching it, and it was not necesary a flashback of Rose.
That scene with those balloons can be one of those “white flashbacks” like the one from the Silent Hill Movie.

    • In only thing i think is in the end, I hope it’s not like the final “normal”, ie I would not like that the movie ends with Heather saying “blondes have more fun”,I would like an end as the final “Posession”.

  15. Relax, people. I´m sure we get an official release date soon. We must to have patience. If the post-production needs five months, maybe we get to see the movie still this year.

  16. Michael, I have an inquiry. Why isn’t Silent Hill 2 on this list of upcoming SONY films? http://www.sneakpeek.ca/2011/05/sony-pictures-release-schedule-may-26.html

All the films to be aired on the rest of 2011 to the start of 2013 are listed there. Was Silent Hill 2 pushed back for a late 2013 release? I certainly hope not! Please say something :(

  17. Nice one, Michael!

I see Maxime Alexandre shot the movie instead of Dan. Great choice, he did some ace work on ‘The Crazies’. Can’t wait to see what you’s came up with.

  18. I look foreward to the new movie and game too!
Working on a film is difficult and we all appreciate the effort you put into it.
Games and movies are different mediums and should be treated differently, so don’t listen to certain people who’s already judging your movie for not being EXACTLY like the game, Mr. Bassett.
By the way, I think it would be worth it if Heather was all bubbly and idiotic, just as long as she looked like the game.(sarcasm)

  19. Sad to see the Downpour game looks like a mix of dirt rally and mortal kombat. :(

I hope the movie will be tolerable, Heather doesn’t look like Heather tho and that made me already not hopeful of this.

Friends you need to remember this is business. They’re not doing it because they love Silent Hill, they’re doing it to make profit.

SH2 and SH3 remain the only truly good Silent Hills, forever.

    • Hmm – if they only want to make a profit with the film, wouldn’t they have cast Megan Fox or a vapid rising Hollywood bimbo as opposed to a relatively unknown actress like Adelaide Clemens? Who by the way, looks like she’s done a stellar job with the role.

      • I think I also meant to say that making a profit has to be a consideration for this film or any although there are many godawful ways that can be done and I don’t feel the team behind this film have fallen prey to that (that’s why I mentioned Megan Fox – nothing personal but she’s popular with a certain demographic and would be mis-cast here- yikes:) Profit is good in the sense it allows a franchise to continue and films to be made in future so it has to be considered, but I feel that staying true to the intent and special meaning the games have for their players has been preserved here as well.

      • You’re wrong.

        • Why are some people hating? Adelaide Clemens looks a lot like Heather in this movie, and simply put if they went with someone with more acting experience they may not of got someone close to Heathers age in the movie. I would rather see a young 20s actress play Heather, instead of a 30s actress that looks *young*.

Adelaide should be given a chance to prove shes a decent actress, just because shes unknown to some, it doesn’t make her bad.

Look at the Resident Evil films, Mila isnt an A list actress, probably a C or D list yet these movies make hundreds of millions in the boxoffice.

Judging by the performance of the first Silent Hill film, I think the creators would be happy speanding 50 million and getting 50 million in profit after all the deductions are done.

Speaking of which Adelaide Clemens is beautiful, certainly some eye candy there, she 21 according to Imdb.

          • You also are wrong, I did not say anything about Adelaine, you’re taking the wrong direction.

            • I’m not wrong about anything. I added my comment to the end of the discussion, being polite as I am, as I noticed a lot of negativity from some people.

Basically I didn’t aim that comment at you.

              Sorry for the confusion Marcos

              • hey Matthew – not sure if you were directing that at me but I was actually defending Adelaide in that role and saying she was the perfect fit for it. Would have been a disaster if they had cast an A-list actress – I prefer seeing new or emerging actors myself – was being sardonic but it’s hard to convey that in writing.

              • No problem, I thought that you answered to me, because I have nothing against Adelaide. Actually I meant to issue a profit, never mind. Confusion cleared up.

                • That’s one problem with the written word Marcus – it’s only 20 something percent of total communication so easy to mis-read someone’s comments – I think we were all confused in that thread! Next time I’m being a smartass I’m using a happy face:) All good – glad we all agree she’s awesome and while profits matter, they’re not the whole story either.

                  • Yeah sorry for the vagueness, it was mostly aimed at Joonas, and one or two other comments I’ve read on here. Not anything Caroline or Marcos said anyway.

I think some people were just ridiculusly negative, with comments like she doesnt look like Heather thus the film will suck, and stuff like that.

    • Yes, but its a REMAKE, its not the game itself transformed into a movie, thats why Hetaher isnt Heather from the game.
Its not for business principally, its to make something different, a new story.

    • Like I’ve been saying, Heather may not look like exactly Game-Heather but as long as she acts like her, there isn’t a problem.

And who cares if they are doing it for a profit? Obviously if they want movie they will make a GOOD movie that people and fans will actually want to see.

    • If you were expecting them to land a professional actress who would look EXACTLY like the game character Ito made up entirely in his mind you had ridiculous expectations…

    • “Friends you need to remember this is business. They’re not doing it because they love Silent Hill, they’re doing it to make profit.
SH2 and SH3 remain the only truly good Silent Hills, forever.”

      You’re right in this.

  20. Congratulations Michael! Thanks for all your hard work, and I can’t wait to see the final cut of the movie!!

  21. Congrats~~~~~~~~~~~~~So lookin forward to the film~~~~~~if there would be a midnight screening. i will definitely be there~~~

  22. What Malcolm McDowell said about his role in the movie.

“I enjoyed that very much. It’s part 2 of Silent Hill and all that. I just really did one major piece in it. I play this weird guy who’s blind in a prison cell, with a chain. Scary. It was fun to do. I loved doing it. I just went in for a week, did it, and “Bye bye.” I’m sure it’ll be good, because this is one of the better ones of that genre of movie. So I think it’ll be good.”

    • Sounds like the movie will take elements from the game and mostly run with its own story, if this, and the mall stuff is anything to go by.

I like this, although it could either turn out very bad, or very good. I doubt Michael would put this much effort into something bad, so im leaning towards good.

After all, if we knew everything that was going to happen in the movie before it screened, it would be less fun to watch, am I right?

      • Well even in the game we only encounter Leonard Wolfe in one area so his role was always small. You mostly would just read abut him or hear about him from Claudia and Vincent.

        • Had to refresh my memory a little but if the *prison* statement is true, is he speaking about Brookhaven Hospital? I’m unsure what context he’s speaking about, he may be calling a padded room or something in a hospital a prison, hard to say..

Anyway I thought his role in Silent Hill 3 was more important than that, she did get the Seal of Metatron from him

The whole thing was rather fruitless for Heather, so I’m assuming Michael will be giving Leonard more of a role, what with Leonard disliking Claudia.

  23. Oh goodie! >:3

Thank you for being so engaging and friendly to all us fans. We’re a fickle bunch but I know this movie will be amazing, you have a great head on your shoulders. Congratulations! :)

  24. Hey Michael!!, Congratulations now that U finished filming!!!. Now the worst part is done, so the movie is just almost over, now it’s the normal process of editing…bla..bla…bla. Really appreciate ur effort and ur time doing this for us, we really wanted a second movie and just let U know that we are looking forward to it!!. Hope U are going to disturb us…and surprise us as well…I expect a really good story, really good characters, and of course…Silent Hill.

P.D: I want to see some pictures of Carrie Ann Moose, pleeease, I would love to see how is she going to be….pleaseeeee…just love her so much…
Thank U again, and Good Luck!!.

  25. I was wondering Michael, assuming Silent Hill gets another film, and you’re the director/writer, do you have any plans to bring Adelaide Clemens back? What I mean is, is there a possibility for her to reprise her role as Heather, even if its minor?

Also, sorry about speaking about the mall stuff, guess that was spoilerific. People have pics and info from the place posted online, which is where I sourced the info from, must say you did a brilliant job with the place from what I hear.

  26. Congrats on wrapping principal photography of the film. I know it was a gargantuan undertaking with 3-D, but you had some ace people working with you on all fronts, i.e., Malcolm McDowell (GREAT choice – I also love him as President Eden in Fallout 3), Carrie-Anne Moss, the production crew, etc. Looking forward to seeing it.

I’d also say that you may want to get A LOT of sleep and rest before plunging into editing and post-production, as I’ve heard that editing for 3-D is basically like editing two movies in one AT THE SAME TIME. Also, folks, let’s remember that he only got PRINCIPAL photography done – that doesn’t even include any pick-up shots or any re-shoots that may or may not have to be done due to things like test audiences, studio demands, and the like.

Given that fact, here’s how I think the timeline will manifest itself:
a)5 or more months – complete post-production (incl. any reshoots, pickup shots, ADR, and any other shooting)
    b)2 months before film release – Announcement Trailer;
c)1 month before release – Teaser Trailer
d)1 weeks before release – Theatrical Trailer

I’ll be checking back in to see how things are going and looking forward to seeing the finished product. Take the time you need to take, Michael, as I’ve heard that editing a 3-D movie, is like editing two films at the same time, since basically you’re blending two images into one composite image. Good luck with everything.

    Sincerely,

    Critical Eye

  27. This is for you Michael Basset:
Now that filming is over is important for me to say this now before seeing the movie and not knowing the end result, I want to thank you for having maintained all along this direct contact with us since before the shooting started until now that already completed. I know that maybe sometimes it was not easy for you after long days of filming to hear some comments here, and dealing with fans like me, I know that sometimes my comments were perhaps somewhat hard, or hasty, but having kept this space and this direct contact is really valued and appreciated, I do not know how others have done or would do something similar, so I just wanted to say thanks.

    • Hear hear!

    • I suppose I have to agree; great job Michael.

    • I, too, would like to thank you for maintaining contact with us while taking on this HUGE endeavor. We are very grateful for that and I know that it may be awbile again before you can post anything else, due to the demands of approaching release date, promotion, and any other production demands.

  28. Just five months for a flick I’ve been waiting on for five years? Done and done. Editing and the rest of Post is such an awesome process, where the film really gets made. This should get really exciting.

  29. Congratulations, Michael!

Any details about first teaser trailer?

  30. Awesome news. So glad that it’s finally (almost) done. Thank you for making it, i can’t wait to see it. Twice.

  31. OMG… i just saw some screenshots from this movie where there is a “Brookhaven Asylum”, but Brookhaven Hospital Made its appearence at the original film! (See the map that Rose is “READING”, and it says brookhaven hospital, its not alchemilla.

Hope that the asylum is another building, and that Michael has noted this.

  32. Awesome news! Congratulations, it can’t have been easy to wrap an entire film in just over 2 months! Get some rest before launching yourself into the post production stage, we can wait.

Good luck – I’m sure its going to be awesome!

  33. Hey! Congrats on wrapping the film! I hope that post production goes well!!! I bet this one is gonna be absolutely fantastic! I can’t wait to see it!!
    Best Wishes,

    Dean

  34. Have a nice time working, Michael!

  35. Congrats on a successful wrap, hope you popped the cork on a good bottle of Champagne.

  36. I can’t wait for the trailer!!

  37. Congratulations! Holy crap, am I the only person who felt like that went by fast? Then again, I know nothing about how long it takes to make a movie; if it’s 5 months post production, then that sounds about right.

Can’t wait to see how it turns out (although, of course, we’ll have to :P ). So happy for you–good luck and best wishes with all the post work!

  38. worth waiting :) give us some kick and thrill!

  39. By the way did anyone else see the mall stuff they’re doing for this film? Seems like its going to be a flashback, people reported about balloons saying happy birthday Heather, and happy birthday Alessa, and random other stuff which would only spoil if people dont want to know.

Totally genius if you’re doing a backstory with the movie.

  40. Great news! :D

  41. :D
I wish you all the luck and inspiration, and to make it beautiful in that dark and twisted way we all know and love, whit a touch of your own.

  42. LOL…..too bad that the 21 of may is the judgement day… or is it 11-11-2011?…or 21-12-2012 XD

  43. Congratulations – that’s a feat in and of itself. It’s bittersweet too when working so long with the same team to wrap, but at least it’s ready for the next stage to bring it to the screens. Get some sleep :-)

  44. Good news! Can’t wait to see the film. High hopes for you Mr Bassett. :)

  45. These are amazing news, I can’t wait :D

  46. Such awesome news :D ! This is gonna be an awesome movie. Definitely worth the wait.

  47. 5 Months I will still be here waiting patiently for all this. ^_^

Keep up the great work and all in all, have a blast.

  48. 5 months, I can wait xD

    I’m very excited!!!

  49. Great to see everything is going all right! Now, we “just” have to wait months… gonna be hard, I assure you! Hehe!

  50. Good!, congratulations, I’m glad that the filming has gone well, just have to wait a couple more months, after that two things can happen, or I become the person most fanatic of Michael Basset for the rest of my life or not and I ended up committing suicide in the same theater. It’s just a joke.
Seriously, without having seen anything, do not know why but I have the feeling that we really will be surprised when the movie is finished.

  51. Wow – how time flies! Seems like it was just the other day that you started. Looking forward to the final product. :-)

  52. Wow! You got done a lot earlier than most people expected! Good job!

You should check out the new Silent Hill 8 Downpour teaser. Maybe see if you and Konami can work together to cross promote the game and film. :D

Lots of good Silent Hill news coming out together!

    • Boy, I hope they don’t screw this up…
That first trailer looked a bit off to me (and even unprofessional) in many ways, but I guess they can still refine the game. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  53. Ugh!!! How can you expect me to wait!!! XD lol. You did a marvelous job, I’m sure. I suppose I’ll just attend in my bittersweet nocturne for five months. Such are the elegies of my life! Jk. Though it would smite my requiems if you could at least tell us when we might expect a trailer!?!

  54. Best of luck with the film and stuff like that Michael, hope its a success in both England and America, as well as everywhere else.

Please get the film out for Christmas please, give the people of England a good Christmas present lol

  55. I’ll wait

  56. Take your time, Mr. Bassett! Make it look splendid for the release! I’m glad the shoot went well, and I wish the best for the post-production!

  57. So, still no word on a composer for the soundtrack yet? But, man………….you guys busted butt on getting this wrapped up so quick for principal photography. Shows that you picked all the right people for casting and crew to get it done so quick for on location shooting, even with the snow storm. Congrats!!!!

  58. It’s got Malcolm McDowell in it, of course it’s going to be amazing.

  59. I SO wish I was cutting this with you !
