On Monday afternoon, the Anderson County East-West Connector Highway got bigger.

The Anderson Area Transportation Study Committee voted to make the connector four lanes instead of two. It will also include a turning and bike path.

The connector will join Clemson Boulevard and Highway 81 via Beltline Boulevard and Oak Hill Drive.

Committee member Brian White said extra care will be taken to make the connector look more like a parkway instead of an asphalt jungle.

"It's been a concern of mine and others in the committee to make it more of a parkway feel. I think folks in your viewing area have probably driven through CUICAR, and you have the trees planted on either side and nice crape myrtles in the median area to help replace some of the trees that were taken down . It will have a neighborhood friendly bike path-type of area," said White.

The road is set to be completed in October 2012.
