BBC television was launched on November 2, 1936. BBC One as it is currently known was launched in April, 1964 with the introduction of BBC TWO to the United Kingdom.
The Channel was originally known as BBC1 before changing to to BBC One in recent years.
As of September, 2006 the channel was attracting an average 22.5% audience share.
BBC One is a commercial free channel and shows a mixture of entertainment and current affairs series. The most popular shows to be currently airing on the network include Eastenders, Doctor Who, Spooks and Casualty.
