Phang Nga hosts sea kayak races

PHANG NGA, 11 October 2011 – Phang Nga province will tap sports tourism potential by hosting a sports festival tagged Koh Yao Sea Kayak Regatta,23 to 25 October, in Phang Nga Bay.

Phang Nga Provincial Administration Organisation and the Rowing & Canoeing Association of Thailand, are hosting the event to develop sports tourism and hope the regatta can be an annual event.

The event will major on sea kayaking races, but will also feature mountain bike competitions with registration set at Bt500 for the two sports.

Krabi eyes events business

BANGKOK, 19 May 2011 – Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau expects Krabi to be the next destination to attract events related investment and emerge as a contender in the country’s expanding MICE market.

TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, said Krabi is currently a suitable destination for MICE travellers, although it currently has no more than 300 MICE visitors a year. But there are plans to change that with an investment in a convention centre that is at the blueprint stage.

According to Krabi Chamber of Commerce chairman, Phuvadit Preechanont, Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre may build an international convention centre on an 80-rai public plot at Ao Nang Beach. The estimated budget is Bt1 billion.

Krabi grabs Australian votes

BANGKOK, 6 January 2011- Australian travellers voted Ao Nang in Krabi, Thailand, to second place in the top 10 popular beach destinations worldwide, according to a survey conducted by www. expedia.com.au.

According to the Australian travel website, Ao Nang beach, Krabi, gained the second spot right after Cable Beach, Broome in Western Australia.

Ao Nang beach is in Krabi province about 20 km from Krabi town. The coastal province has more than 83 offshore islands. While not as famous as its neighbour Phuket island it has its own airport and is served by domestic flights from Bangkok, international flights from Singapore and charters out of Europe.

KRABI, 5 October 2010 – Krabi’s tourism faternity has added a new guidebook to its arsenal of marketing tools.  The  140-page guide was published earlier this year for distribution at international trade shows and also to tour wholesalers, worldwide.

Apart from some excellent photography and maps the book features details of the province’s fine beaches, while giving insights and tips on activities and ecotourism pursuits to add value to a vacation.  There are some interesting chapters on a  hot spring waterfall and hot springs on a relatively unknown beach in the province.

Krabi wants more airlines

BANGKOK, 1 October 2010 – Krabi, a popular resort on Thailand’s Andaman Sea coast urgently needs more airlines and attractive fares, tourism entrepreneurs reported Thursday.

“Room capacity is running way ahead of airline seat supply. There are plenty of tourists who want to visit Krabi, but not enough airline seats to meet that demand especially November through to April,” Krabi Tourism Association chairman, Ittirit Kinglake, told TTR Weekly.
