Beirut City Center Heritage Trail - Segment One

The ancient Tell is undoubtedly the most remarkable archeological site in Beirut city center. As such, it is receiving special treatment, integrating neighboring archeological vestiges: preserved parts of the Canaanite wall and gate, Phoenician glacis, Hellenistic remains, Crusader castle foundations above earlier Roman fortifications, and remains of the Ottoman citadel. A site museum will display remains from the Tell and other archeological sites which are part of the Heritage Trail. The information will be offered in a modern setting including lighting and sound effects and computer-generated images. A sinuous path underground will guide the visitor through Canaanite, Phoenician-Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and medieval ages.
