Drivers and Cars Entered in the 1951 Narrogin Race

Reproduced from the original programme, here are details of some of the cars and drivers who were entered in the Australian GP that was held in Narrogin in 1951.

T.V. Hawkes's 180 m.p.h. 4.5 litre unsupercharged Talbot Lago will be driven by Doug Whiteford, winner of last years Australian Grand Prix and Australia's leading driver. A very reliable combination.

Dick Bland, beekeeper from Bathurst, is a splendid driver. Enthusiasts remember his capable handling of his Ford V8 Special and look forward to seeing him in  action with the ex-Crouch Delahaye that won the Grand Prix so convincingly in 1949 at Leyburn, Queensland.

Keith Martin's Cooper with 996 c.c. V twin J.A.P. engine which develops  86 b.h.p. at 6000 r.p.m. won the Australian Hill Climb Championship for 1950 at Rob Roy. It's maximum speed is 118 m.p.h.

E.Norman's famous "Double V8" will attract all technical types! Power is supplied by 2 Ford V8 engines hooked together ingeniously. Brakes are cooled by S.U. pump-actuated water sprays directed at the brake drums. This vast machine is capable of well over 100 m.p.h.

V. Maloney has recently fitted a "blower" to his attractive M.G. (T.C.)  monoposto and we hear he now plants teh foot firmly down and really gets cracking!

D. E. Curran's very pukka looking monoposto powered by the popular Ford V8 motor that  made its first appearance in the A.G.P. at Nuriootpa last year but  cooling was inadequate. Much careful thought and hard work has gone into this  beautiful special and we hope to see it finish favourably today.

Syd Negus, winner of the first Great Southern 50 at Narrogin in 1948 has his scarlet Plymouth Special going well and as it's a most reliable machine you can expect Syd to  be in the picture. Here he is being chased by Barry Ranford through the Hairpin at Narrogin

J. Nelson (W.A.) is the veteran driver of the W.A. Sporting Car Club with a long string of successess to his credit in his Ford 10 Special. He won the Albany  Grand Prix with the Ford V8 Ballot driven today by Roy Denney.

A. Collet (W.A.). The engine of Arthur Collet's M.G. is always raced completely standard, yet its record in post-war racing is proof of the M.G.'s fine performance and reputation for reliability.

R. Kennedy (S.A.) Well known Adelaide tuned of M.G.'s Tony Ohlmeyer, prepares Ron  Kennedy's "T.C." for racing. The fact that 3rd place was gained in  the 1950 Grand Prix is proof of this combination's efficiency

A. O. Watson's entry of an H.R.G. will appeal to owners of Singer cars because this sleek little single seat machine features a motor based on Singer components, (75 b.h.p. at 5,000 r.p.m.). It is reputed to produce a maximum speed of 105 m.p.h.

A. Aldous (W.A.) drives a standard M.G. that has been a consistent and successful performer in competition motoring of all types. Noel is a well known artist and the cover of this program was drawn by him.

A Mackintosh is the popular President of the W.A.S.C.C. and with many road racing successes to his credit is racing his well known Bartlett Special with a new Vanguard engine that should provide a considerable ncrease in power.

C. Uphill (W.A.) has been a consistent performer in W.A. Sporting Car Club events, his win with the Morgan in the Under 1500 c.c. W.A. Hill Climb Championship in the 1949 being a particularly good effort.

P. McKenna (Vic.). The very rapid German B.M.W. sports car that Peter McKenna drives  won the 1948 Australian Grand Prix at Point Cook. Driver was L. F. Pratt

C. La Motte (W.A.). The "Fidget" has a Ford 10 engine in a lightened Fiat 500  chassis. Claude won the Silver Star for the highest aggregate points in handicap  events in 1947-48.

G. Reed's  monoskate with Ford Mercury V8 engine has performed well in sprints and in road  racing at Bathurst Mr. Druitt. In May he lowered the Foleys Hill Record. He is N.S.W. official representative

Colin Murray, England's representative in the Grand Prix, is a young driver who has   cometed with his 140 m.p.h. Maserati on such famous circuits as Silverstone, 

  Isle of Man, Jersey as well as Continental road races.
