Detroit Lions sign cornerback, former first-round pick Tye Hill
ALLEN PARK -- Former first-round pick cornerback Tye Hill practiced today (Thursday) after signing with the Lions to fill the roster spot vacated when kicker Jason Hanson was placed on injured reserve.
Hill was cut by the Tennessee Titans before this season.
He was drafted in the first round (15th overall) by the St. Louis Rams in 2006 coming out of Clemson. He has also played for the Atlanta Falcons.
More than any other position group the secondary has been a work in progress this season. Hill is just the latest piece in the puzzle.
The 40-year-old Hanson had missed three games after injuring his right/kicking knee against the Jets on Nov. 7.
Also, right tackle Gosder Cherilus may have taken a step back with a knee injury. Cherilus did not practice today (Thursday) after participating in a full practice on Wednesday.
Kyle Vanden Bosch missed his third straight practice after injuring his neck in the Thanksgiving game. It’s unlikely he will play on Sunday although he has not been officially ruled out.
