Nintendo's Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has been flying off store shelves in Japan, according to Media Create Co., Ltd. Since its release last week, Paper Mario 2 (as it's called overseas) has sold some 159,000 units. The game blew past Japan's second hottest seller, Tenchu: Kurenai, which sold 76,000 units and Bokutai 2 Solar Boy Django, which came in at number four with 38,000 units.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door plays sequel to the N64 game Paper Mario. The game features 2D characters roaming through a hyper-stylized 3D game world. It's also one of the few Mario titles where head-bopping takes a backseat to turn-based strategy. You'll need to recruit a band of characters and battle hordes of familiar foes. The Thousand-Year Door also comes packed with an array of mini-games, such as side-scrolling action sequences.
Look for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to ship locally on October 11, 2004.
