David Verner Anderson, class of 1922 About David V. Anderson

David Anderson graduated with the Norwich University class of 1922. He was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Anderson was employed by the State of Vermont as deputy auditor of accounts, 1927-1941, and as auditor of accounts, 1941-1965, when he retired. He served as trustee of Norwich University from 1961-1965. David V. Anderson had an interest in photography while at Norwich and served as an assistant to a professional photographer while he was a high school student. The control file included with the collection and the October 1979 edition of the Norwich Record contains additional biographical information on David Verner Anderson.

About the Collection

The collection includes photographs, 1918-1922 and undated (1952?), from Anderson’s time as a student at Norwich and from a later reunion of alumni, possibly the 30th reunion of the class of 1922. An album of photographs, 1918-1922, and 1954, reprinted by the family from the original negatives in 2010 is also included. Papers in the collection date from 1939-1955, during Anderson’s tenure as Vermont’s auditor of accounts and also include materials on alumni meetings, scholarships, donations and endowments, which provide insight into state and Norwich affairs at the time. Also included are Anderson’s reminiscences written in 1965, which reflect on his life in service to the state of Vermont (16 pp.), and an essay on friendship written in 1976, which captures his thoughts on three special friendships he developed with David B. Hollis (1900-1993), Dick Tyler (d. 1978), and Frederick M. Matthews (d. 1982) while at Norwich.
