Networking

IRT supports, maintains, upgrades, and continues to expand the School of Medicine data communications network. The network consists of both wired and wireless service in nearly 50 buildings scattered across the primary campus, and at many remote sites. The wired network is a mix of 10/100 Mb/s switches and Gigabit (1000 Mb/s) switches and both network wide and department level firewalls. The wireless service is an 802.11 (WiFi) network.

We “pre-activate” all known wired data jacks, so there should typically be no need to request a jack activation. However, all devices used on the network must be registered for both wired and wireless network access.

The only exception to the standard registration is provided for Wireless Guests.
