Sudha Chandran in Mayuri
Story:
Mayuri (Sudha Chandran) is passionate about dance but her step mother Vedavalli (Y. Vijaya) is against it as the latter feels that it'd only bring wrath on the family. Mayuri learns dance without the knowledge of Vedavalli and performs on the dais to everyone's applause. Soon after, Mayuri meets with an accident and loses her leg in the accident. Mohan, who expressed his love interest to her earlier, rejects her as she's handicapped. How Mayuri wins her life back and keeps her passion for dance is the rest of the interesting story.

About the film:
This is the only Telugu film where a real life story is enacted by the same individual on the silver screen (albeit with fiction). (Ushakiron Movies made Ashwani later, with athlete Ashwani Nachappa in the lead role, but it was more of a fiction than a real life story. Ushakiron Movies also produced films like Mouna Poratam and Judgment based on real incidents, but with different people acting in respective real life roles.)

In one of her interviews, Sudha Chandran quoted that the accident happened when she was sixteen (in May, 1981), while she was returning from a temple and that her leg had to be amputated due to negligence on the part of the doctors that attended to her then. Dr. Sethi and Dr. Kasiwala were really the ones who gave her confidence that she can dance soon. Having faith in their words, she underwent the surgery and got her prosthetic foot (popular known as "Jaipur foot", named after the capital city of Rajasthan where the treatment is available), and started her dance practice. She never even thought, for the sake of it, that doctors were only trying to be of moral support and that it could seem impossible in reality. When she announced her dance programme after the accident, an audience of over a thousand people was totally unexpected for the event, which she thought would be more like a family affair. That was when Dr. Sethi congratulated her for her will power and admitted that he didn't really completely believe in his own word that she could dance!

Subhakar and Sudhachandran in Mayuri
Singeetam Srinivas Rao gaaru on the film:
One day, Ramoji Rao gaaru saw a small news story in Anand Bazar newspaper, which was about a dance performance of a person who earlier met with an accident and lost her leg. That news story gave him a thought and he asked Atluri Ramarao gaaru to get more information about the dancer, as he liked her will power to pursue her passion for dance despite being physically challenged. He felt that the story has a potential to inspire a lot of people and asked Ramarao gaaru to look for a subject that can suit the plot idea. Ganesh Patro was the regular writer for films made by Ushakiron Movies banner back then - he worked for Nenu-Maa Aavida and Sundari-Subbarao in that banner before - and thus Atluri Ramarao gaaru approached him to develop a story based on the idea, so that he can continue to search for more information on the dancer in the meantime. Finally, after a long search, he got a news that she recently performed for Doordharshan-Madras, and he eventually got in touch with her father K.D. Chandran who worked at the U.S. Consulate in Bombay. Chandran was soon to come to Madras for an event, he learned. Meanwhile, the story was ready; Ramoji Rao changed the climax such that it showed the confidence of the girl who was once dumped by the guy due to her handicap.
