Victoria’s Brett Hayward was crowned the Australian Hillclimb Champion for 2009 after his victory at the Penrite Australian Hillclimb Championship held at Bryant Park, Haunted Hills over the weekend.
Hosted by the Gippsland Car Club at the new world-class hillclimb facility, the annual event was a great success drawing 113 entries from all over Australia with unique and interesting vehicles.
Hayward, driving a Formula Libre of his own design and construction, was the outright winner ahead of Andrew Howell and Greg Ackland. Defending Champion Gary West did not compete this year, having sold his championship winning Lola T8750 to Doug Barry who finished fifth.
The Australian Hillclimb Championship trophy was presented to Brett by Victorian Sport & Club Development Council Chair David Bellenger on behalf of CAMS. An individual trophy will also be presented at a forthcoming function.
CAMS congratulates Brett on his fantastic championship win and commends the efforts of the Gippsland Car Club in particular John and Carol Bryant and their team of volunteers.
