UK breakbeat pioneer and Marine Parade label head Adam Freeland has received a Grammy nomination for his remix of Sarah Vaughan's "Fever." Nominated in the field of "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical," Adam's remix of "Fever" was so strong that on its release, a new video was cut with Director Happy for his version of the track. In addition, Happy (who also directed the video for "We Want Your Soul" from Adam's debut artist album Now & Them) just won the award for "Best Short Film" at this year's British Film Festival for his film Jane Lloyd. You can check out both videos at: www.smugglersite.com/05/directors/happy_music_frame.html and you can check out his film at www.janelloyd.co.uk.
The Grammy nomination comes at the end of a very busy year for Adam Freeland. In 2005 this industrious artist took up residency at the legendary Fabric club in London and recorded and released a Fabric Live CD as part of their ongoing series. He also compiled a groundbreaking, genre defying Back to Mine collection and crafted a remix of B-Movie's "Nowhere Girl." In addition The Doors' management personally requested Adam to remix "Hello I Love You," one of the band's best-known songs. He was given access to The Doors archive where he discovered a whole section of Jim Morrison's vocals that have never been heard before. Freeland put his big sound system club-rock spin on the mix, which has an official release on Marine Parade early next year.
And if all of that weren't enough, Adam has been hard at work in the studio in both Australia and the UK writing the follow up to his debut artist album Now & Them, tentatively scheduled for a summer 2006 release. The album features long time vocal collaborator Juice Aleem as well as other high profile surprise guests.
Adam Freeland is one of the key founders of the UK's breakbeat movement. His remixes of Nirvana "Smells Like Freeland" and White Stripes "Seven Nation Freeland," were the first "breaks/rock" bootlegs of their kind and have since then become legendary. His Coastal Breaks mix series was the first of its kind, he co-established "Friction," the UK's finest breaks night, and was half of Tsunami One (famous for their hit "Hip Hop Phenomenon"). In 1996 Adam founded the highly respected Marine Parade label, responsible for artists such as Evil Nine, Ils, Beber, and many others. Ever ambitious he went on to form his own band, Freeland, who released their debut album Now & Them in 2004. The main single "We Want Your Soul," with its anti-mainstream sentiment, hit a chord with many and ironically became a top 40 hit in numerous countries world round. With all this to his credit he is also one of the most well established and in-demand DJs on the planet.
