An opera singer to Düsseldorf

France: Amaury Vassili to the Eurovision Song Contest

French broadcaster France 3 have decided upon their representative in Düsseldorf. 21-year-old opera singer Amaury Vassili will be the Frech ambassador in Eurovision 2011. Despite his young age, he is already a successful artist on home soil, having sold 250,000 copies of his debut album.

The song with which Amaury will compete in Eurovision is yet unknown. He will be seeking France's first win since 1977, when Marie Myriam entered the Eurovision hall of fame with the song L'oiseau et l'enfant.

Besides that, according to Le Parisien, Laurent Boyer, a popular French animator who used to work for private channel M6 and Catherine Lara, a well-known singer, were named as this year's commentators of the Eurovision Song Contest final to be held on May 14th in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Below you can watch some of Amaury's performances.

ok..not something I expected from France for sure...and I am not quite sure how is anything like that relevant with esc..but anyway I will wait for the song before I judge...but it smells jury favourite to be honest..the eurovision audience is not exactly fond of such entries (too bad of course..)..good luck !

Agree! Everyone is like "oh this is quality because it's opera", but he is not that good of a opera singer to be honest.

average operatic voice but pretty face . i know personally at least ten operatic singers with far more superior and technically better voices . good luck france

Oh now I know who this Zaz is!! I heard that song before! I really like it!

So out of these I would chose Zaz over the opera guy with cover songs and the Star Academy nobody.

Emma is a former candidate to the Star Academy, and she reached the semi finals she also had some hits in France, though she is a little less popular
Zaz is a young French singer, and her debut album is a huge success in France. Her single "Je veux" was at the top at the charts last summer for two months and her album is multi platinum.

If France sends a ballad then it would be a success (IMO). But if it sends an up-tempo/dance song (like Sweden 2009) then bonne chance à eux.

Who are these other names?? :/ I'd rather have this opera guy over some talent show contestant.

Zazie would be AMAZING though, but as you said she's not mentioned :/

As i previously said : Amaury hasn't been confirmed as France's entrant this year.
Emma Daumas may also be the chosen one, and on Europe 1 - a very mainstream franch radio - a third name was also given : Zaz... (not to be mistaken with Zazie)

Ehm?

Amaury has released cover albums, Shy'm has released 3 albums (2 platinum ones, 1 gold one) with original music.

He might be a better singer, but like I wrote before this is not a talent show.

It's a matter of taste. Opera is really not for everyone and the ones not liking this idea shouldn't be talked down like they're dumb or something. I bet most people acting all big here aren't listening to opera/popera either usually so no point in acting up.

But let's see what the song will be like, if they somehow can managed to do something good and contemporary with this, but opera/popera is not unique, nor is it contemporary and usually it ends up very tacky and oldfashion, but let's wait and see.

thanks for the info :)
Too bad for Noir desir :(
I was in Paris last month and have seen billboards advertising AaRON's CD at almost every metro station, which made me think that they're popular enough, despite singing in English :)

Noir Désir disbanded a few months ago and Aaron sings in English, two ver good reasons not to see them on stage in Düsseldorf ;)

I'd prefer something like Noir desir or AaRON for France

Philippe ESTEBAN [32443]
Fri 28 Jan 2011 08:19:09

well, first the decision hasn't been taken yet, because the choice is still pending between Amauty Vassili and former Star Academy semi finalist Emma Daumas.
Second, I can"t remember who wrote that Amaury is a total nobody compared to Shym. Amaury's album sold more than 250,000 copies in France, whereas Shym's went nowhere in the charts. Furthermore, Shym gave a terrible performance last week at the NRJ music awards, she can't sing live and her songs are dull.
France may not have made the best choice if Amaury is picked up, but still every choice would still be better that Shym and her sound-alike in France (Najoua Belyzel, Vitaa...)

Sure, Alenka and Malena qualified; but France doesn't have that problem. They are already qualified and should send something contemporary and, why not, good.

I'm not going to place any money on this happening, so to speak, but...

Just because he has a tenor voice, does that necessarily mean he has to sing a traditional operatic ballad, adapted for Eurovision, like Didrik Solli-Tangen or Bonaparti.lv?

A ballad it probably will be... but maybe it'll be more poppy or even rocky, yet still suiting his voice. It can be done... it has been done.

I would be disappointed and surprised if he sings an opera-dance song like Malena Ernman or Alenka Gotar, though, but I doubt he will. France are better than that. They've been consistently brilliant since 2008, always sending artists known to their public.

Merci beaucoups la France, et bonne chance a Monsieur Vassili pour deux-mille-onze!

And a person who is attacking someone because of his/hers taste in music,, now THAT is what immaturity is all about. It's so low grade and primitive for anyone over 15 to write stuff like that, just for your info.

Taste is subjective and I don't need some silly person to tell me anything about my taste. I've got my taste, you got yours and just live with it! What's good for you can be bad for someone else and vice versa, don't put yourself on the pedestal of good taste, your taste is yours, and mine is mine.. grow up seriously. In Kindergarten people jumped on other because of their music taste, some obviously never grew up.

Shym doesn't have a weak voice firstly, she's got a pop voice more or less, it all comes down to what one like. I watch this for the music and not because of some sort of talent show, there are plenty of other shows for that. Obviously a good voice is to prefer, but opera is not for everyone.

Is it just me or does he sound like Serge Gainsbourg? BRILLIANT. Another inspired choice from France.

A good voice is better than a weak voice - like Shym. A good voice can lift an averagesong whereas a weak voice can totally destroy one. The song is the most important part, but none of us even know his song yet. Just because it doesn't suit your lame taste doesn't mean it won't suit others' and it has nothing to do with age. I see who's immature here clearly.

I've got a brain, I don't need to act big and personal attack someone through a computer screen, that's very Kindergarten indeed.

You've got no clue about me so better not comment on what I like or dislike because simply you don't know me.
