Refurbished Boston Common plaza seen as a place to stop, sit down, spend time
In a once-forlorn corner of Boston Common, a classically trained pianist sat at her instrument today and played Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Miles Davis. Nearby two young men played chess. Other people pulled newspapers and magazines off a reading rack, sat back on new park benches, and listened to the music. Welcome to the new plaza around Brewer Fountain at the intersection of Park and Tremont streets. The overhaul of the area unveiled today was intended to do more than refurbish Brewer Fountain and restore the granite plaza – it was intended to give people a reason to stop, sit down, and spend time in America’s oldest park.

Secretary of State William Galvin: RBC Capital Markets agrees to repay Mass. investors up to $2.9m
RBC Capital Markets has agreed to repay Massachusetts investors up to $2.9 million, plus a $250,000 fine, in a settlement with Secretary of State William F. Galvin. Florida governor refuses to ban concealed weapons throughout Tampa during Republican convention
Florida Governor Rick Scott will not ban concealed firearms in downtown Tampa during the Republican National Convention, despite a request from the city that he do so. Scott said in a letter to Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn that a preexisting ban on weapons in and around the convention arena is sufficient and that a further restriction would violate the US and state constitutions. The Tampa City Council voted last week to have Buckhorn request an executive order from Scott.
