Bill Joy is a computer scientist and venture capitalist. Joy co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982 and served as chief scientist at the company until 2003. While at Sun he wrote the essay 'Why the future doesn't need us
' (2000) for Wired
magazine, where he expresses deep concerns over the development of modern technologies. In 2005 he became a partner in venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, where he has made investments in green energy.
