NEA PAC votes to endorse Ben Cardin for re-election to the U.S. Senate
Long-time public school champion secures crucial endorsement
WASHINGTON - December 09, 2011 -
The National Education Association’s Political Action Committee, The NEA Fund, today voted to endorse the candidacy of Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
“NEA is proud to endorse Senator Ben Cardin’s reelection to the U.S. Senate,” said NEA President Dennis Van Roekel. “Senator Ben Cardin has been a champion for students and educators across the country during his time in Congress. He fights every day for working families and is a tireless advocate for children and public education.”
“By educating and nurturing our children, educators perform one of the most critical tasks in our country,” said Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.). “I am honored to receive the endorsement of the NEA, and I take seriously the privilege to fight on their behalf in the Senate.”
“Senator Cardin has been a great friend of educators,” said Maryland State Education Association President Clara Floyd. “Throughout his service in the Maryland General Assembly, U.S. House of Representatives, and now in the Senate, he has put the needs of working people at the top of his priority list. His support of the Education Jobs Bill, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and President Obama’s efforts to protect the jobs of educators and first responders, demonstrates his strong concern and advocacy for educators, families, and children.”
As the NEA’s national political action committee (PAC), the NEA Fund provides direct financial support to recommended candidates for President, the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate who will fight to support teachers, staff and students and improve public education.
