tag

I was blog-tagged by Cindy over at Hyacinth Quilt Designs…so here’s the questions she asked me and my answers:

1. If you're not quilting, what are you most likely doing?  cross-stitching or knitting (usually at one of my kiddos’ sporting events!  Most of my knitting projects I can associate with a particular sporting season!

2. Do you buy fabric with a specific project in mind or "just because"?  Usually just because.  I used to only purchase fabric when I needed it for something…and that quickly changed the more I started quilting!

3. How many quilting projects do you have going at once?  This is a COMPLETELY unfair question.  I plead the 5th!  Seriously…I usually have 2 active projects…and then many more that are in various stages of completion.

4. How many completed quilts do you own?  This is kinda sad…I only own 9 completed quilts.  4 are lap size or larger, and 5 are in the schnibble to baby size range.  Really depressing considering the amount of kits, fabric, and WIPs that I have!!!

5. How do you use your quilts, or are they stored away somewhere?  4 of my quilts are in constant use throughout the house.  1 is a Christmas quilt that I completed last year, so it’s in use only for a few months a year.  The other 4 are schnibbles…and they’re folded in a pretty little stack on a shelf in my sewing room.  Someday I want to hang a rod in my entry way to display the little guys.

6. What is your favorite food?  Mexican food.  I could eat it 3 meals a day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it.  Basically…I think that if it’s covered in cheese with a margarita on the side…I’m good Smile

7. What is your current favorite color combination?  I love white and aqua combined with linens/flax/natural.  I’ve recently started a giant shift in my home décor to reflect this…and I’m loving it!

8. Where do you get your ideas and/or inspiration?  Blogs for sure.  Any kind of magazine.  Store windows and displays.  I actually doodled a quilt design pattern based off of the pattern on my umbrella the other day…maybe I’ll actually be able to execute it some day!

Alrighty then!  Do you know more about me now that you ever thought?  Surprised?

Now…only because I’m definitely a rule breaker…I’m not going to “tag” anyone else!  However if you’d like to be tagged, I’d love you to answer these same questions that Cindy asked me…

Happy Saturday to you all…and enjoy your Easter tomorrow!

for when you wonder if it’s worth it

My hobbies are expensive.

Like super duper that fabric/yarn/pattern was HOW MUCH? expensive.

And sometimes, I feel guilty for the money that I spend on this art of mine.

Am I being selfish?  Should I be saving more?  Giving more?  Spend less time in the studio?

When I first started stitching and sewing, it was because I wanted to create things that my family could use…and LOVE…and pass through the generations.  I was jealous of those who had family heirloom quilts…and wanted that for my family too.

early morning blankets

This morning when I woke up (too early, I might add) I heard the boys arguing over blankets.  They were arguing over who got to use the “momma” blankets (quilts I made) and who had to use the “green” blanket (cheap store bought fleece throw).

Knowing that my boys love the blankets just as much as I do is an amazing thing.  They choose their momma’s blanket over the store’s blanket…and that makes it worth it.

This weekend, as many of you will enjoy a 3-day weekend, I hope that you will take time to enjoy your family and friends.  We will be enjoying lots of lazy hours together, swimming, eating, playing, and reflecting on the amazing sacrifice that was made for us so many years ago.

I’d like to thank the academy

I feel like I should be accepting an award…or making a speech…or at least something pretty monumental like that.

008

I finished my first sock.

And it’s everything I hoped it could be.

Except for I probably should have added about 4 more rounds on the foot.

And I probably should have ripped out the few rows up toward the top where I have that little slub…that I ignored and pretended wasn’t there.

But other than that, it IS everything I hoped it could be.

Well…except for a PAIR of socks…I did actually hope for a pair.

IHSW

There is a movement out there, people.

A movement started by someone brave enough to put a name to what we all find ourselves doing (or wish we were doing!) on the weekends.

Stitching.

And not just any stitching.

Hermiting & Stitching.

The kind of stitching where you throw chores and sanity by the wayside and declare that you’re sitting on your rear end ALL WEEKEND and stitching.  The y’all best take care-a y’alls selves ‘cause momma ain’t comin’ outta this room till Part 1 of the Deep Blue Sea is done kind of stitching.

Maybe your IHSW didn’t sound like that…but in my house it did!

All kidding aside, I did work on Deep Blue Sea quite a bit and got SOOO close to the finish line of part one.

006

I even started on the gold backstitching…which btw is going to take FOR. EV. ER…

007

If you haven’t tried hermiting…you should.

But if you’re a stitcher/quilter/crafter of any sort…you KNOW you’ve hermited.

You just didn’t know the name of it until now. *wink*

Join in with us next month…you know you want to…
