Is Resident Evil getting a western dev?

8:37 PM - - 3 Comments
Is Resident Evil getting a western developer? According to Kotaku, it sure seems that way, which rumor that Slant Six Games is working on such a title.

According to a document forwarded to Kotaku, the game's title is Resident Evil: Raccoon City. While the developer won't confirm that they're making a new Resident Evil game, they did confirm that they are working with Capcom on one of their franchises.

Slant Six Games has developed three games -- two entries in the SOCOM franchise for the PSP and another SOCOM game for the PS3, so best guess is that any new RE title from them would be tactical.

Wesker joins Marvel vs Capcom 3

3:48 AM - - 35 Comments
Chris Redfield has company in the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3 -- Albert Wesker has been announced as a new playable character. His appearances and move set are based around his Resident Evil 5 appearance, which means plenty of shooting, punching, and teleporting to shoot and or punch people. Plus wearing his trademark glasses and leather coat, if that counts as a power.

You can see a video of Wesker in action from the Tokyo Game Show right here.

Planet Resident Evil interviews Tomandandy

4:21 AM - - 45 Comments
If you've seen Resident Evil: Afterlife, you've probably noticed Tomandandy's energetic and complex soundtrack to the movie. Planet Resident Evil was lucky enough to interview Tomandandy about their work on the movie, discussing topics as their body of horror movie music work to the soundtrack's lack of traditional orchestral sounds. Here is a snippet from the interview:

Planet Resident Evil: When Afterlife was first announced, Paul W.S Anderson described it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise. When you guys first met with Paul to discuss the score, were there any immediate ideas on how to make the style of the soundtrack unique enough to distinguish it as a rebirth of the franchises sound?

Tomandandy: Yes, Paul said that he wanted the franchise to sound completely fresh and different from the previous scores and he said that he did not want to use orchestra. So we started with knowing what not to do and began to try things out. It was a great opportunity to find a new voice for the franchise.
Hit up the link above to read more about the interview or head over to iTunes if you want to hear more about the soundtrack.

Capcom to announce 4 new games at TGS

4:12 AM - - 39 Comments
According to this Tweet from Capcom Europe, it seems that Capcom will be showing off four new titles at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show:
Tokyo Game Show this week. If i had to guess at the Capcom announcements Id guess at 4 new games announced and some new MvsC3 characters.
One of the games is said to be a Devil May Cry title from developer Ninja Theory, but what could the other three be? We know Resident Evil 6 is in development even if Capcom hasn't said a word about it -- could it be one of the titles being announced at TGS?

Details on the Revelations engine

3:02 AM - - 46 Comments
Want to know more about the technology behind Resident Evil Revelations, which is being developed for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS? Then be sure to check out this article, which gives quite a bit of interesting info on the MT engine version that is being used to power the game. Here is a snippet from the article:
The game's graphics rendering pipeline is, when looked at from a far, almost identical to that of Resident Evil 5. The game has such things as HDR Rendering, Self Shadows and Normal Maps. Effects like color correction, depth of field, gamma correction and such have also already been implemented. During 3D use, the game will maintain a 30 frames per second output.
The Revelations demo looked so good that it was difficult to believe that it was real-time. If it weren't for the screenshots in the article displaying the engine running in different rendering modes, I wouldn't even believe it myself.

Milla Jovovich explains RE film popularity

4:34 PM - - 46 Comments
The Resident Evil movies may not get good reviews, but they get pretty good box office results, especially for a video game movie. Why is this? Series star Milla Jovovich has a theory:
Q: The "Resident Evil" films have generated over $378 million at global box offices. What is it about these films that have succeeded where so many Hollywood video game adaptations have failed?

A: "'Resident Evil' has always been an independent movie, which I think is very special about it. It's not a studio concoction. We started as a tiny, little European action film, and everybody involved, Paul, myself and Michelle Rodriguez, were into the game. That was the birth of this franchise. It was just people who really love the games, who really love the characters, and love to kick butt and take no prisoners, and girls enjoying taking on these tough parts.
It is hard to deny that something certainly is making the Resident Evil movies succeed. In terms of budget vs gross revenue, the Resident Evil film series is one of the most successful video game adaptions out there, which is interesting considering it is a pretty loose adaption of the game.

IGN tries RE5 Move

4:42 AM - - 47 Comments
Resident Evil 5 may have been released nearly a year and a half before the PS Move, but it is one of the first titles with Move support. And how does it fare? According to IGN, the answer is "pretty well":
Although the button layout does get in the way of the experience, Resident Evil 5 does work with Move controls. Aiming is responsive, firing is satisfying, and it's fun to whip the wand around and pull off headshots. Move-based quick-time events like shaking the wand to escape from grasping enemies brings a sense of visceral immediacy to the experience.
If you own Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition on the PS3 (and the Move controller), you can add support to your copy by downloading the free update when you launch the game.

Resident Evil Afterlife to top weekend box office

4:05 AM - - 30 Comments
How do analysts think Resident Evil Afterlife will do at the box office? According to ABC News, the answer is "pretty good":
The fourth entry in the Screen Gems/Sony video game-spawned series is set to earn at least $25 million during its first three days. Franchise originator Paul W.S. Anderson directed "Afterlife, with his wife Milla Jovovich again starring.

The most recent film, "Resident Evil: Extinction," opened to $23.7 million in September 2007 en route to a $51 million total. The final tally was in line with that of 2004's "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" and bigger than the $40 million haul of 2002's "Resident Evil."
Afterlife wasn't pre-screened for critics, so there aren't any reviews available right now. Keep checking back with Planet Resident Evil for the latest details and information about the movie.
