Schemes

This is a full list of the grant schemes provided by the Royal Society.

Senior career schemes

• Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award: For outstanding scientists who would benefit from a five year salary enhancement to help recruit them to or retain them in the UK.
• Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship: For scientists who would benefit from a period of full-time research without teaching and administrative duties for a period of up to one year.
• Royal Society Research Professorship: For world-class scientists who would benefit from long-term support to allow them to focus on research and collaboration based at an institution in the UK.

Innovation and industry schemes

• Industry Fellowship: For academic scientists who want to work on a collaborative project with industry and for scientists in industry who want to work on a collaborative project with an academic organisation.
• Brian Mercer Feasibility Award: For scientists who wish to investigate the feasibility of commercialising an aspect of their research.
• Brian Mercer Award for Innovation: For scientists who wish to develop an already proven concept or prototype into a near-market product, ready for commercial exploitation.
• Mercer Prize: For scientists whose research has been commercially exploited for significant wealth generation or societal benefit in the UK.

We also present the Royal Society Mullard Award to individuals whose work has the potential to make a contribution to national prosperity and we run the Royal Society Enterprise Fund, which makes investments in early-stage technology businesses.

Education schemes

• Education Research Fellowship: For academics in the UK researching physics and mathematics education who are at an early stage of their career and have the potential to become leaders in their field.

We also run the Partnership Grants scheme, which provides funding for schools to work in partnership with scientists and engineers.

Research and infrastructure schemes

• Paul Instrument Fund: For scientists in the UK who want to design and construct a novel instrument to measure phenomena in the physical sciences.
• Research Grants: For scientists in the UK who are at an early stage of their career and want to purchase specialised equipment and consumables or for academics to research the history of science.
• Royal Society Wolfson Laboratory Refurbishment Grant: For scientists in the UK who want to refurbish or renovate their research laboratories.
• International Scientific Seminars: For Royal Society Research Fellows who want to organise a small two-day scientific seminar at The Kavli Royal Society International Centre.

Capacity building schemes

• Leverhulme-Royal Society Africa Award: For scientists who want to develop a collaborative research project between the UK and research institutions in either Ghana or Tanzania.

We also run the Royal Society Pfizer Award for scientists working in the biological sciences and the Royal Society Pfizer African Academies Programme to strengthen national science academies in Ghana, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Collaboration and travel schemes

• International Exchanges: For scientists in the UK who want to undertake a collaboration with scientists overseas through either a one-off visit or bilateral travel.
• India-UK Scientific Seminars: For mid-career scientists who want to organise a small three-day scientific seminar between groups of scientists from India and the UK.

Discontinued schemes

• International Travel Grants: For scientists in the UK who wanted to participate in an overseas conference or collaborate with other scientists on a short international visit.
• International Joint Projects: For scientists in the UK who wanted to undertake a collaboration with scientists overseas.
