Blackpool girl bids for BBC stardom

PLEASE sir, could I have the part!

That's what Blackpool girl Jodie Prenger wants to ask music impresario Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and the British public as she joins the hunt for the role of Nancy in a West End production of Oliver!

Millions of viewers tuning in on Saturday night saw Jodie, of Newton Drive, become an instant hit at the auditions, screened on BBC1's I'd Do Anything!

She beat off competition from thousands to make it through to the final 42 picked for Nancy School.

"I may have gone to private school but I come from a working class background," said Jodie, a former pupil of Elmslie Girls' School, Blackpool.

"We've always been grafters and that should help with the role of Nancy. She just rolls up her sleeves and gets on with things. She's the tart with a heart."

Jodie's larger than life personality, and even bigger voice, had panelist and Doctor Who star John Barrowman in stitches.

"I haven't laughed so much in a long time," he said after Jodie, in tight skirt and high heels, flung her shoes into the wings and performed in bare feet!

This weekend, she will find out whether her efforts at Nancy School will get her into the final 12.

"I'm really excited to have got as far as Nancy School," said Jodie,"who knows what will happen next?"

Jodie was bowled over at the call-backs when she got to meet Andrew Lloyd Webber and called her mum, Madeleine, to tell her.

"I always tell mum everything first," said Jodie, who lives in Blackpool with her mum, dad Marty and brother Marco.

Jodie's good luck mascot is her boyfriend Steve Greengrass.

"He had to wait around for hours for me and he was amazing, fetching me coffee while we waited," said Jodie, who lost eight stone to win the title of Britain's Biggest Loser in 2007.

Jodie puts her success in the Nancy audition down to her weight loss.

She said: "Before I always lost out at auditions because I was too big, now everything is within grasp.

"It would mean the world to me to win this part and be the next Nancy."
