“It’s about creating desire rather than treating a season as whatever it’s supposed to be,” said Maria Cornejo at her NoLIta studio earlier today. She was talking about her resort collection, which will deliver to stores in November and stay there for almost four months, through the holidays and into the new year. “It’s about transition now, and livening up what you already have in your winter wardrobe,” she said. “Not everyone goes to the beach.” Pointing to looks like this one — a draping viscose and wool skirt paired with a clean, black V-neck tank — Cornejo made references to cities like New York and Berlin (where one could quickly make use any of the collection’s leather pieces, too), and suggested Art Basel in Miami as a perfect place to wear the complete range, from swimwear to evening wear and every “dorky sort of look with a white shirt buttoned up” in between.
