The Baltimore Orioles were originally the St. Louis Browns. They played as the Browns for the first 50 years of the club’s history. Upon moving to Baltimore from St. Louis, the team’s owners wished to distance the team from its former history by giving it a new name, which they chose to be the Orioles. The name “Orioles” was used frequently by baseball teams in Baltimore, as the “Baltimore Oriole” is the state bird of Maryland.

“Oriole Park at Camden Yards, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, has established the following security procedures for entrance into the ballpark:

No hard-sided coolers, thermoses, glass bottles, cans or alcoholic beverages are permitted into the ballpark. You must leave these items in your vehicle before entering the ballpark.

Non-alcoholic beverages in plastic bottles are permitted into the park. All items will be checked at the gates and any beverage which has been opened or partially consumed prior to entry is subject to confiscation if it is thought to contain alcohol. In addition, no plastic or paper cups of beverages are permitted into the park at the entry gates.

All items permitted into the ballpark will be inspected. No bags or items exceeding the maximum size of 16″ x 16″ x 8″ are allowed into the ballpark. Permitted items must easily fit into a 16″ x 16″ x 8″ container. Bags on wheels are prohibited.

No containers or unauthorized items can be left at any park entrance.

No re-entry will be permitted. Once you enter the ballpark, you will not be permitted to leave and re-enter the facility.

Only vehicles dropping off or picking up guests with disabilities are permitted to stop curbside at the ballpark.”

5. Eddie Murray
Eddie Murray was the first baseman for the Baltimore Orioles from the beginning of his career in 1977 until 1988, when he became a LA Dodger. He returned to the Orioles briefly in 1996, but retired from the sport in 1997, again as an LA Dodger. The first 12 seasons of his career with the Orioles defined Murray’s career as a reliable hitter. He was an eight-time All Star selection, three time Gold Glove Award recipient, three-time Silver Slugger Award recipient, and he helped the Orioles to one of their three all-time World Series Championships in 1983. His number, 33, was retired by the Baltimore Orioles and in 2003 he was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

4. Frank Robinson
Frank Robinson played both Right and Left field during his Major League Baseball career. He played the first decade on field for the Cincinnati Reds. He began to outshine others, however, when he played for the Baltimore Orioles from 1966 to 1971. During this time, he helped the team to two of their three total World Series Championships. While with the Orioles, Robinson was the AL MVP, World Series MVP and recipient of the Babe Ruth Award. In 1971 he was the MLB All-Star Game MVP as well. His number, 20, was retired by both the Cincinnati Reds and the Baltimore Orioles. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.
