The young winger was originally a New Year loan signing from Southampton in 2009.
The Saints' Academy graduate, who has also had spells at Burnley and Sheffield United, signed on loan until the end of the 2008-09 season.
A player who can play on either flank, he turned in some impressive displays on loan, especially in the FA Cup ties against Fulham and Portsmouth.
It prompted the Swans to splash out £400,000 - a club record equaling transfer fee at the time - to sign him on a permanent basis from Southampton in the summer of 2009.
He enjoyed an impressive first full season in the Championship, despite being asked to play a more defensive role, and scored twice from 40 league appearances.
But it was the arrival of new manager Brendan Rodgers at the start of last season that really brought the best out of him.
Ever-present throughout the promotion-winning campaign, his scintillating form down the wing was such that he was voted the Supporters Player of the Year - no mean feat considering he was up against 27-goal striker Scott Sinclair.
