MONTERREY La RAZA 19 COLORADO LIGHTNING 4

The Monterrey La Raza made a commanding statement in the first meeting of the Copa America Tournament by scorching the Colorado Lightning 19-4 before 3,720 at Arena Monterrey.

Genoni Martinez led the way with five goals and one assist and six La Raza players had multi-goal games.

La Raza led 3-0 after the first quarter and 7-0 at halftime. The lead ballooned to 12-0 before Jose Londono scored his first goal as a member of the Lightning.

Forty-three year old Lightning Head Coach Rafael Amaya inserted himself into the game as a sixth attacker in the third quarter to try to shake up his team, but only managed to incite the fans, who began chanting, "Viente, viente, viente," trying to urge their team to the 20-goal mark.

1790 CINCINNATI 9 DETROIT WAZA 8

The Detroit Waza was dealing with an 0-3 start, a grueling six-game season-opening road trip, and a bus breakdown that cause their meeting with 1790 Cincinnati to be delayed almost two hours.

Despite almost not reaching their destination they almost pulled off a victory, but fell 9-8 in their best showing of the season. 1790 improved to 2-0 while the Waza fell to 0-4, but Detroit showed some promise and expressed relief that the most difficult part of their schedule travel-wise is now behind them.

Shawn Rockey led the 1790 attack with two goals and three assists and was named offensive player of the game. The game’s defensive player was Garrett Buck who also scored twice.
