Jack Bell, former Carroll County sheriff, commissioner, dies
By The Associated Press
Jack Bell, who served as police chief in Carrollton and Carroll County sheriff and commission chairman, has died. He was 73.
Bell died Friday from injuries after he was run over by a tractor he had been driving while mowing a field for the Carroll County Water Authority, said Sheriff Terry Langley.
The county's new jail in 2001 was named the Jack T. Bell Detention Center, recognizing his effort as commission chairman to build support for a modern facility to accommodate a growing population.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Reeves Bell, of Villa Rica; three daughters, a sister and five grandchildren.
The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Villa Rica.
