The Old River House holiday apartments are a perfect place to base yourself for a holiday on Sweden's High Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Owner Simon Ellman talks to The Local.
What inspired you to found The Old River House?
When my wife and I travelled to the Swedish High Coast we found the area stunningly beautiful, but were disappointed in the comfort levels at local accommodation. We saw the need for true service orientated accommodation and decided that we should seek to establish a business that very much puts the needs of our guests first. Business travelers need to focus purely on their business and holidaymakers don’t want to spend their time doing domestic chores.
We also didn’t want to open an hotel, but have accommodation as well-furnished and equipped as a quality hotel, at more reasonable rates. We wanted all the advantages of a stand alone apartment, which our guests could treat as their home from home. To this end we undertake all regular housekeeping services, but if our guests require additional services such as a private chef, a driver, or any other service usually provided by an hotel concierge service, we can meet their needs. At the same time if our guests want total privacy, they will not be disturbed.
What's the nicest thing a customer has ever said about The Old River House?
They hated checking out.
If The Old River House was an item of food, what would it be?
Chocolate! Comfort and contentment!
What keeps you awake at night?
Thinking of anything we have missed, which our guests might ask for.
If I contact The Old River House, will your staff be able to speak with me in English?
Yes - and French and German
What's the strangest request you have ever had?
Last Christmas a guest asked us to deliver a Christmas tree with lights and decorations late at night after their children were asleep... great fun!
What are your greatest selling points?
Sitting by our own river in the summer and a real fireplace in the winter. We are located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also when people come here they can learn why this area has a long history related to Witches!
