Fisker Karma at Monaco Grand Prix

The much-talked about, yet elusive Fisker Karma made a splashy appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix over the weekend, marking the electric super car’s European debut for the highly regarded Formula One race. What made these laps noteworthy was the driver, Albert II, Sovereign Prince of Monaco. Company co-founder, CEO and executive design director and namesake, Henrik Fisker, was riding shotgun in the anticipated EV.

“The Fisker Karma project has a distinct Monaco link. Prince Albert was one of the people who inspired me to create the Fisker Karma,” said Henrik Fisker in a press release.  “When I met him at the Top Marques Show in Monaco in 2006 he commented that he would love to see a fuel-efficient luxury car, and from that small seed grew the concept of what became Fisker Automotive and our focus on premium EVer cars that deliver pure driving passion.”

The Karma was on display throughout the weekend, at the chicane exiting the tunnel, turns 10 and 11, (referred to  as the Nouvelle Chicane), and in Monaco Motors, Fisker’s new local dealership. The company reports that production has begun at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki facility in Finland with Fisker aiming to achieve full build rate by the second half of 2011.

The Fisker Karma also made an appearance at My Yacht Monaco along with actress Michelle Rodriguez, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Michael Saylor, Prince Mishaal, Princess Dona, Paddy Byng, CEO of Asprey, Bob Horner, SVP of Bombardier Jets, Darell Aviss, President of Swiss Trust, and Sovereign Prince of Monaco, Albert II, Superyachts.com reports.

Beautiful piece of engineering and a very timely design. I wish Fisker the best of success as this is a truly innovative design that meets the needs of the times with style and flair.
