Famous College Dropouts (Slideshow)

Sometimes finishing college, even when you're just a few credits or even a couple weeks away, seems hopeless. That doesn't mean the good life is impossible, though, according to living examples listed here.

Titans of industry, celebrities known throughout the world and the most powerful figures in politics were, at one point, looking at notices from their schools and working up the courage to walk away. However stressful that was, these 18 examples that college isn't for everyone -- especially if you're incredibly lucky, good-looking, intelligent, driven, talented, etc. already.

Check out the list we gathered and let us know who surprised you:

Turner was expelled from Brown University after he was caught with a woman in his dorm room, which was against college regulations. He is now known as a wildly-successful businessman for founding CNN and TNT.

Loved the slideshow. But what a risk to drop out at the very end of college ! I wonder what gives a person the self confidence to do such a thing? Or is it just a gamblers spirit ?

There may be 19 examples of how folks dropped out of college and made it anyway, but I think I'd rather rely on my degree than my talent. Seeing that I don't really think I have any particular talent that is far away and above anyone else, I'll just stick to my sheepskin.

I just wish they would change the college system to save cost by not making every student take X ammount of credit hours for any given degree. Not all degree fields are equal. These universities are just milking money out of people by making them take BS courses that have NOTHING to do with their field of study.

You can be book smart and still lack common sense, I've worked with some.

Anything is possible, but people who are taught to think are better able to solve problems.

If you know me so well how do I have an inferiority complex. I am in college. I was talking to those who are not in college.

Once again we love to highlight the exception to the rule. Any documentation of all the rest that dropped out and what their futures were like. I thought not. Years ago, 55% of college grads didn't end up in their particular field. I wonder what it is now?
02:55 PM on 06/20/2012
Exactly. The actual statistics regarding the success/failure of those dropping out of college would, I suspect, paint a very different picture.

That said, it is true that college is not for everyone.

Pete Wentz will prob regret it... what else has he done? In a great band for a short time, got married and had kids.

I bet about half of them never would have finished, even if they had tried.

Why would he forego a diploma by dropping out two weeks before graduation? What a numby, or is it nummy?

why I don't know nor do I care......he has done well for himself despite the lack of diploma.

College is no guarantee of anything, if you are motivated yo can do better w/o it.

Our Indoctrinated system makes it only appear substantial.
