Dear Parents & Guardians,

Last week senior students undertook mid-year examinations.  For some Year 12 students this was the first external assessment for the year, and I thank our dedicated staff for their willingness to run additional classes in their own time to support the learning of our students. Year 10 and 11  students also participated in exams, providing them with much-needed experience in the rigour of VCE.  We believe it important that we prepare our students for the inevitability of written exams and the formality which goes along with them, and I thank in particular Miss Mitchell, Mrs Cozaris & Mr Ringin for their hard work in ensuring the exam period was as smooth as possible.

At the present time staff are working hard on compiling reports for all our students, which will be mailed out at the end of term.  Parents, please take the time to read over your child’s report and contact us if you have any  concerns.  The end of the first semester is a very opportune time to do this, as students who are not being as successful as they might be can reflect on how to make improvements in second semester.  We are always here to partner with you in achieving better outcomes for your child, and I encourage you to contact the teaching staff if we can help in any way.

The recent SRC fund-raiser for Beyond Blue resulted in $394.25 being collected for this worthy cause.  Congratulations again to Saja Kodr for her outstanding contribution.  It was a great school community event, complete with teachers competing in a dance off”.  Ms Xanthopolous and Ms Tirabassi won the day, although Mr Ringin showed that he is no stranger to tripping the light fantastic!!   Thank you to all students and staff who assisted on and before the day.

Community members will be aware of the recent  AEU strike and the impact on government schools.  For your information, we have posted a letter from the Minister of Education & the Minister responsible for the Teaching Profession outlining the Government’s perspective.  You will also find a copy of the Australian Education Union’s log of claims for your information.  As there is likely to be continuing industrial action, I recommend that you keep informed about the issues under debate.  I am happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

Thank you for your support.
