01-May-1957 The formation of the police Medical Unit at the military hospital, Bait Al Falaj, The unit was comprised of 10 beds.
01-Jan-1969 The allocation of Force number for the long serving policemen who were members of the military unit.(Oman Gendarme)
04-Sep-1970 The police department took over the responsibility of motor vehicles licensing which used to be under the Muscat and Muttrah Municipality.
01-Jan-1972 The first Omani Nationality Law was issued (from 1 to 80)
Feb-1972 The Royal Oman Police took over the responsibility of guarding the Omani coastline and its territorial waters
17-Oct-1973 The establishment of the first police station at Buraimi
26-May-1974 His majesty Sultan Qaboos, the supreme Commander of the Royal Oman Police issued the Royal Decree No. 23/74 pertaining to the issuance of Prisons Code
01-Jan-1975 The Royal Oman Police takes over the responsibility of Customs posts staff were transferred to the Royal Oman Police in phases.

Feb-1979 The opening of the Fire Training School at Royal Oman Police Academy, Nizwa (now the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences)

13-Nov-1982 His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the supreme Commander of the Royal Oman Police issued the royal Decree No. 91/82 specifying the names of the police formation and police ranks the Royal Oman Police.
05-Jan-1983 The fire station was inaugurated in wilayat Sur, eastern region, under the auspices of Shiekh Sultan bin Rashid Al Yaqooby, the then wali of Sur.

01-Dec-1992 The establishment of Computer Section of the Royal Oman Police
25-Feb-1996 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs signed as agreement for the execution of the building project for Mazyona border exit.
21-Mar-1997 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued director No. 1997 pertaining to wearing of military ranks by the women police.
02-Apr-1997 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued directive No.27/97 upgrading the Directorate of Financial Affairs to the level of Directorate General
29-Sep-1997 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs signed three agreement: the first for the construction of an office complex for the Sharqiyah Regional Headquarters, the second for the construction of building facilities for licensing, Passport and Residence in Ibra and the third for construction of the police complex for Barka Police Station.
01-Mar-1998 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued directive No. 22/98 pertaining to the executive regulation for firearms and ammunition cods and the traffic code.
26-May-1999 The official opening of Sharqiyah Region Police Headquarters Complex in the wilayat of Sur under the auspices of His Excellency Mohammed bin Naser Al Alawy, the minister of Legal Affairs
06-Oct-1999 His Majest Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of the Royal Oman Police issued the Royal Decree No. 76/99 amending the regulations pertaining to expatriates residence.
14-Nov-1999 Under the auspices of His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs the Patrol Police of the special police Task Division was inaugurated.
31-Jan-2000 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and customs issued directive No.8/2000 for the establishment of Al-Saada Police Station under Dhofar Police Headquarters.

07-Jan-2001 In line with simplification of procedures the new car number plates system was introduced for all categories of vehicles. The system is based on international standards and applied to all approved vehicles.

10-Mar-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs signed an agreement with Messr. Nous Establishment for Trade & Construction for the construction of al Kahal Police Station at Al Jazir under Al Wusta Police Headquarters.
18-Mar-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued directive No. 35/2001 pertaining to the import of firearms and ammunitions for government units.
19-Mar-2001 The opening of the civil Defence Exhibition at the Seeb public park under the auspices of His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Harthy, Undersecretary for the ministry of transport & communication.
08-May-2001 His majesty Sultan Qaboos, the supreme Commander of the Royal Oman Police signed an agreement with Al Batinah Company for Shipping, Handing and Customs Clearance for the management of handing operations and reloading of trucks transiting the custom posts at the border points.
12-May-2001 His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the supreme Commander of the Royal Oman Police issued the Royal Decree No.42/2001 pertaining to the amendments of certain provisions of the Police code.
22-May-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued directive NO.37/2001 pertaining to the executive procedures for firearms and ammunition code and its executive regulation.
24-Jun-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued directive No 49/2001pertaining to the formation of a new directorate by the name of Muscat Traffic Police under Muscat Governorate Police Headquarters.
26-Jun-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued directive No.50/2001 amending some of the regulations for the practicing of business by ROP personal and outlining the restrictions on practicing certain business activities
27-Jun-2001 His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of the Royal Oman Police issued the Royal Decree No. 72/2001 amending some of the Omani Penal Code.

22-Jul-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs issued directive No. 61/2001 approving the organizational Structure & Jurisdictions of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences
29-Jul-2001 His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the supreme Commander of the Royal Oman Police issued the Royal Decree No.91/2001 on the amendment of the Traffic Code.
31-Jul-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs signed in Geneva an agreement regarding of Sultanate Oman accession to the Framework Agreement for Civil Protection
16-Sep-2001 His Excellency the Inspector General of Police and Customs signed and agreement with the Gulf Business Machines (Oman) LLC. For the establishment of Civil Registration System for the Sultanate of Oman
