Rusty the pool man

Raging Rusty swaps his ID for Considerate Crowe whenever he rolls into the North Coast town to kick back at his rural retreat. And for good reason.

In addition to sponsoring local footy team the Orara Valley Axemen, the actor has contributed $200,000 to the local primary school to install a swimming pool by the end of the year.

Crowe kick started the initiative, which comes at a total cost of $800,000, after a boy from the school drowned at Coffs Harbour beach in 2001.

"The many things he does up here, people just don't know about," the school's principal Laurie Renshall told Confidential.

"We've been trying to get a pool for 10 years and we can't do it with a chook raffle. Russell has got this project off the ground."

Cash-dropping Russell Crowe nearly fails to register

July 29, 2009

Russell Crowe has been making headlines one way or another in the UK while busy at work on the Ridley Scott-directed Robin Hood.

Deep in character, he has even been making Robin Hood-style donations. But when Crowe stopped into a charity shop and made a £1,000 donation he failed to register with the woman behind the counter.

Julie Deane, a volunteer at the Cancer Research UK shop in Sunningdale, Berkshire, said: "The lady at the till didn't recognise him. He asked if we took donations and she told him we do. She gave him the donations book to fill in and he wrote Russell Crowe."
