Episode - July 11, Week 4

This week of NXT is brought to you by the letter H.

NXT was thin on new talent this week with two long matches involving firstly Camacho and Tyson Kidd and secondly the Prime Time Players against the Usos. Sandwiched between these, though, was a glimpse into the future, which I shall talk about towards the end of the column. Yes, that's right, I'm giving you a hook to stick around.

- Camacho (or Camacho Man Randy Savage, as I like to call him) had a very good match with Tyson Kidd (or Tyson Kidd, as I like to call him) where a story was told and both men came off looking great. Tyson was obviously the star, but Camacho kept up with Kidd's speed and technically-accomplished offense to execute the match with conviction. His training by the Dudleys really shines through in matches like this, with the big man selling with a sort of enthusiasm that can be clearly linked with Bubba/Bully Ray.

The finish came from a distraction by McGillicutty, leading to Camacho hitting a DDT for the win. Hardly the most cutting edge of finishers, but hopefully when he breaks away from Hunico a rebranding will lead to more exciting pastures.

- The PTPs and The Usos put on a decent but standard match, which could have been copied and pasted from many points around the last season of NXT. Still, the crowd enjoyed it.

- Now that we've had the bread, allow me to inform you of the delicious filling that I touched upon earlier in the article. Bray Wyatt has been a source of great excitement for me in his run-up to this debut with fantastic video packages and promos creating a mysterious atmosphere around the preacher-based character. He's evil, scary but not over the top. He comes across as having genuinely done something evil like murder, but justifies it through the faith he follows (which faith we aren't told). William Regal did a great job enhancing this. Frankly, though, I think William is as excited as I am, as during the match he couldn't help but gush about the "pure violent venom" that comes from Wyatt. At the end of the match, he said, "It doesn't matter what you think of Bray Wyatt; this young man is going to be a huge star," in a tone of voice that told me he was not putting over the talent; he was simply stating an opinion.

So what is so great about Bray? His offense is completely unique with his movement probably being the key factor of this. The mood of Wyatt throughout the match could only be described as bi-polar with points of extreme aggression and intensity. For example, he pinballed Aiden English (a strong jobber for now) between the rail and the apron and points of tender love and insanity including rolling around on the canvas and kissing English on the head before delivering a rolling cutter (like Cody Rhode's Cross Rhodes) for the win. The best part of the match was where he hit a monster splash on Aiden in the corner before proceeding to hold English up while dancing around the ring with his limp carcass. It was surreal but my goodness it was incredible. Genuinely go and watch this match, as when he becomes the biggest thing in WWE, you can say you saw him in NXT. He is genuinely incredible.

- There were some other promos included from Seth Rollins and Diva Raquel Diaz but, frankly, by the end of the night, they faded into insignificance by comparison.
