AT TECH: Four-year starting quarterback and the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year . . . Became the first true freshman in Georgia Tech history to start at quarterback in the Yellow Jackets' season opener in 2003, then started 27 straight games before an illness sidelined him one game . . . Started every game (49) he played over his four seasons, starting more games than any player in Tech history except linebacker Recardo Wimbush (50, 1999-2002). . . Led Tech to 29 victories as the starting quarterback, tying Joe Hamilton for second place in school history; Shawn Jones is the winningest Tech quarterback with 31 victories form 1989-92.

Ranks second or third in Tech history in most quarterback categories, including career passing yards (8,128, 3rd), touchdown passes (57, 2nd), total offense (9,579, 2nd) and touchdown responsibility (68, 2nd) . . . Set school records for passes attempted (1,363) and completed (662) . . . Also second in rushing yards by a Tech quarterback (1,451), trailing only Joe Hamilton . . . One of just 11 quarterbacks in ACC history to rush for 1,000 yards, currently ranks sixth in league annals . . . Stands sixth in ACC history in career total offense and 11th in passing yards and tied for seventh in TD passes.

2006: Honorable mention all-Atlantic Coast Conference . . . Leads the ACC with 20 touchdown passes, the third-best season total in school history . . . Passed for 1,820 yards with 14 interceptions . . . Tech's second-leading rusher with 354 yards (2.9-yard average) and two touchdowns . . . Struggled down the stretch in losses to Georgia and Wake Forest, in which he completed just 15 of 51 passes . . . Did not play in Tech's bowl game after he was declared academically ineligible following the fall semester.

Recovered from a poor first half, in which he was just 3-for-16, to make several key throws in leading the Jackets to win over Miami . . . Finished the game at 11-for-27 for 188 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown pass to James Johnson and a one-yard scoring strike to Calvin Johnson in the fourth quarter to give Tech its first lead . . .

Equalled his career-high with four touchdown passes in win at NC State . . . Passed for 215 yards against the Wolfpack with scoring passes covering 25 and 43 yards to Calvin Johnson and 25 and seven yards to James Johnson . . . Added three touchdown passes on just 13 attempts in win over Duke . . .

Threw two touchdowns to Calvin Johnson and rushed for a third scored in Tech's win over Virginia . . . Found Johnson two more times and passed for 176 yards the following week as the Jackets won 38-27 at 10th-ranked Virginia Tech . . . Added one touchdown pass and one touchdown rushing with 245 yards of total offense in the Jackets' comeback win over Maryland.

Set a Tech record for rushing yards by a quarterback when he ran for 130 yards against Troy . . . Also passed for 164 yards, marking just the fourth time in school history that a quarterback has rushed and passed for 100 yards in the same game; Ball also accomplished the feat as a freshman against Vanderbilt . . .

Opened the season with 140 yards passing and one touchdown, along with 55 yards rushing, against No. 2 Notre Dame. 2005: Third in the ACC in total offense, averaging 231.5 yards per game . . . Passed for 2,165 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions . . . Tech's third-leading rusher with 381 yards (3.7-yard average) and four touchdowns . . . Was sacked only eight times all season due to his mobility and improved decision-making . . . His low completion percentage (48.0) is deceiving; he scrambled to throw the ball away rather than take a drive-killing sack . . .

Scored the winning points in Tech's victory at third-ranked Miami with a 16-yard touchdown on a quarterback draw in the third quarter . . . Completed just 11-of-30 passes for 159 yards but had no turnovers and effectively managed the game . . . Rushed for two key first downs late in the game as Tech was running out the clock . . .

Played two of the best games of his career as Tech opened the season with victories over 15th-ranked Auburn and North Carolina . . . Passed for 174 yards and one touchdown while efficiently directing the Tech offense against the Tigers . . . Passed for a career-high 320 yards against the Tar Heels and was named ACC Offensive Back of the Week . . . Threw two touchdown passes, rushed for a third score and caught a 33-yard pass from Damarius Bilbo to set up a field goal.

Missed the first game of his career against Connecticut, snapping a string of 27 consecutive starts . . . Contracted viral meningitis and was hospitalized the morning of the game . . . Remained in the hospital until Monday but returned to play against Virginia Tech the following Saturday despite very limited practice during the week.

Against NC State, he recovered from a poor first half in which he was just 6-for-25 to post a career-best 367 yards of total offense, including a season-best 88 yards rushing . . . Hit 15-of-28 passes for 206 yards while rushing for 67 yards in the second half . . .

Athletic quarterback and the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year . . . Has started 25 straight games since becoming the first true freshman in Georgia Tech history to start at quarterback in the Yellow Jackets' season opener in 2003 . . . Has struggled with consistency in his two seasons, but ended the 2004 season on a high note as Most Valuable Player of Tech's bowl victory over Syracuse in the Champs Sports Bowl.

Ranks sixth in Tech history in career passing yards (4,143), sixth in touchdown passes (26), fifth in total offense (4,859) and eighth in touchdown responsibility (31).

2004: Third in the ACC in total offense, averaging 206.6 yards per game . . . Passed for 2,147 yards with 16 touchdown passes but completed just 49.7 percent of his passes and threw 18 interceptions . . . Among all Yellow Jacket quarterbacks, only Joe Hamilton and George Godsey have thrown more touchdown passes in a season . . . Tech's third-leading rusher with a net of 332 yards and two touchdowns.

Capped the season with one of his best games, earning MVP honors in leading Tech to a 51-14 victory over Syracuse in the Champs Sports Bowl . . . Passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 completions and rushed for another score in three quarters of play . . . Hit Nate Curry for an 80-yard touchdown pass and the longest completion of his career . . . Also connected with Calvin Johnson on a 10-yard scoring pass while rushing 11 yards for another touchdown.

Engineered Tech's remarkable comeback win over Clemson with three touchdown passes in the final five minutes, including the game-winner with 11 seconds left . . . Threw a career-best four touchdown passes in the game . . . With Tech trailing, 17-7, his 19-yard touchdown pass to Levon Thomas pulled Tech within three with 4:36 left . . . After the Tigers responded with a quick touchdown to take a 24-14 lead with 3:18 left, Tech took over at its own 49, and eight plays later, Ball hit Johnson for an eight-yard touchdown in the right corner of the end zone, again pulling the Jackets within three points with just 1:50 remaining . . . Clemson recovered the onsides kick , but the Tigers were forced to punt with 25 seconds, and an errant snap gave Tech the ball at the 11-yard line with 16 seconds to play, and on the next play, Ball lofted a pass to Johnson in the left corner of the end zone for the winning touchdown.

Led the Jackets to 17 fourth-quarter points for a 24-17 victory at NC State . . . Threw the game-winning touchdown pass against the Wolfpack on fourth-and-goal at the one with seven minutes to play, hitting Levon Thomas . . . Played his best game of the season in Tech's win over UConn, passing for a career-best 288 yards and two touchdowns . . . Rebounded from poor performances in losses to North Carolina and Miami with a solid effort to lead Tech to a 20-7 win at No. 23 Maryland, passing for 197 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions.

2003: Set Georgia Tech records for passing yards (1,996), pass completions (181) and total offense (2,380) by a freshman . . . Completed 52 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions . . . Tech's second-leading rusher with 139 carries for 384 yards and three touchdowns . . . Named ACC Rookie of the Week five times during the season . . . Played every offensive snap of the season (785 plays) before being injured late in the first half against Georgia in the regular-season finale . . . Also injured for the second half of Tech's Humanitarian Bowl victory over Tulsa, in which he completed just four passes for 16 yards as the Jackets dominated on the ground.

Directed Tech to a win over 17th-ranked Auburn and was named ACC Rookie of the Week as he passed for 149 yards on just nine completions and also rushed for 26 yards . . . Set the tone for the game by completing a 54-yard strike to Nate Curry on Tech's first offensive play, setting up a field goal . . . On Tech's second-quarter touchdown drive, he alertly recovered a teammate's fumble, converted a fourth-and-one with a quarterback sneak, then rushed 12 yards down to the one-yard line to set up the score . . . In the second half, he threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Mark Logan.

Earned his second ACC Rookie of the Week award after leading Tech to a comeback win over Vanderbilt . . . Became just the third quarterback in school history to rush and pass for 100 yards in the same game as he passed for 108 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 103 and a score against the Commodores . . . Trailing 17-10, Tech took over at its own 11-yard line with 2:12 to play, and on third-and-three at the 18, Ball scrambled, then raced 45 yards down the sideline for a first down at the Vandy 37 . . . Five plays later, Ball hit tight end John Paul Foschi for a six-yard touchdown to tie the score with 32 seconds left . . . Accounted for 86 yards on the 89-yard drive with 54 yards rushing and 32 yards passing on four completions . . . On the first play of overtime, Ball faked right, then bootlegged left and dove into the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown.

Earned his third Rookie award after leading Tech to a 29-21 win over NC State, in which he passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another score, completing 24 of 37 passes for a career-high 283 yards with no interceptions . . . Threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Smith, and then threw a perfect fade pass to a diving Nate Curry in the end zone for a five yard touchdown pass with just 15 seconds left in the first half . . . Added a four-yard touchdown run with 12 minutes left that helped seal the win . . . Was 8-for-11 for 106 yards on third down plays, including successful conversions on five occasions when Tech faced third and seven or more yards.

Passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Jackets to a win at Wake Forest and claim his fourth ACC Rookie of the Week award . . . Threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Paul Foschi and a 65-yard scoring pass--his longest completion of the season--to Jonathan Smith in the game.

Threw a season-high three touchdown passes in Tech's win over North Carolina while rushing for 53 yards to earn his fifth ACC Rookie of the Week award . . . Passed for just 98 yards in the Jackets' win over Maryland, but threw a four-yard scoring pass to Jonathan Smith for the game's only touchdown.

In his debut against Brigham Young, he completed 15 of 24 passes for 147 yards while rushing five times for 39 yards . . . Most impressive play was a 33-yard run down to the BYU four-yard line to set up a score . . . Was not enrolled for spring practice and was named the starter less than four weeks after arriving on campus.
