AT TECH: Four-year starting quarterback and the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year . . . Became the first true freshman in Georgia Tech history to start at quarterback in the Yellow Jackets' season opener in 2003, then started 27 straight games before an illness sidelined him one game . . . Started every game (49) he played over his four seasons, starting more games than any player in Tech history except linebacker Recardo Wimbush (50, 1999-2002). . . Led Tech to 29 victories as the starting quarterback, tying Joe Hamilton for second place in school history; Shawn Jones is the winningest Tech quarterback with 31 victories form 1989-92.

Capped the season with one of his best games, earning MVP honors in leading Tech to a 51-14 victory over Syracuse in the Champs Sports Bowl . . . Engineered Tech's remarkable comeback win over Clemson with three touchdown passes in the final five minutes, including the game-winner with 11 seconds left . . . Threw a career-best four touchdown passes in the game . . . With Tech trailing, 17-7, his 19-yard touchdown pass to Levon Thomas pulled Tech within three with 4:36 left . . . After the Tigers responded with a quick touchdown to take a 24-14 lead with 3:18 left, Tech took over at its own 49, and eight plays later, Ball hit Johnson for an eight-yard touchdown in the right corner of the end zone, again pulling the Jackets within three points with just 1:50 remaining . . . Clemson recovered the onsides kick , but the Tigers were forced to punt with 25 seconds, and an errant snap gave Tech the ball at the 11-yard line with 16 seconds to play, and on the next play, Ball lofted a pass to Johnson in the left corner of the end zone for the winning touchdown.
Led the Jackets to 17 fourth-quarter points for a 24-17 victory at NC State . . . Threw the game-winning touchdown pass against the Wolfpack on fourth-and-goal at the one with seven minutes to play, hitting Levon Thomas . . . Played his best game of the season in Tech's win over UConn, passing for a career-best 288 yards and two touchdowns . . . Rebounded from poor performances in losses to North Carolina and Miami with a solid effort to lead Tech to a 20-7 win at No. 23 Maryland, passing for 197 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions.
2003: Set Georgia Tech records for passing yards (1,996), pass completions (181) and total offense (2,380) by a freshman . . . Completed 52 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions . . . Tech's second-leading rusher with 139 carries for 384 yards and three touchdowns . . . Named ACC Rookie of the Week five times during the season . . . Played every offensive snap of the season (785 plays) before being injured late in the first half against Georgia in the regular-season finale . . . Also injured for the second half of Tech's Humanitarian Bowl victory over Tulsa, in which he completed just four passes for 16 yards as the Jackets dominated on the ground.
Directed Tech to a win over 17th-ranked Auburn and was named ACC Rookie of the Week as he passed for 149 yards on just nine completions and also rushed for 26 yards . . . Set the tone for the game by completing a 54-yard strike to Nate Curry on Tech's first offensive play, setting up a field goal . . . On Tech's second-quarter touchdown drive, he alertly recovered a teammate's fumble, converted a fourth-and-one with a quarterback sneak, then rushed 12 yards down to the one-yard line to set up the score . . . In the second half, he threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Mark Logan.
Earned his second ACC Rookie of the Week award after leading Tech to a comeback win over Vanderbilt . . . Became just the third quarterback in school history to rush and pass for 100 yards in the same game as he passed for 108 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 103 and a score against the Commodores . . . Trailing 17-10, Tech took over at its own 11-yard line with 2:12 to play, and on third-and-three at the 18, Ball scrambled, then raced 45 yards down the sideline for a first down at the Vandy 37 . . . Five plays later, Ball hit tight end John Paul Foschi for a six-yard touchdown to tie the score with 32 seconds left . . . Accounted for 86 yards on the 89-yard drive with 54 yards rushing and 32 yards passing on four completions . . . On the first play of overtime, Ball faked right, then bootlegged left and dove into the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown.
Earned his third Rookie award after leading Tech to a 29-21 win over NC State, in which he passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another score, completing 24 of 37 passes for a career-high 283 yards with no interceptions . . . Threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Smith, and then threw a perfect fade pass to a diving Nate Curry in the end zone for a five yard touchdown pass with just 15 seconds left in the first half . . . Added a four-yard touchdown run with 12 minutes left that helped seal the win . . . Was 8-for-11 for 106 yards on third down plays, including successful conversions on five occasions when Tech faced third and seven or more yards.
Passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Jackets to a win at Wake Forest and claim his fourth ACC Rookie of the Week award . . . Threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Paul Foschi and a 65-yard scoring pass--his longest completion of the season--to Jonathan Smith in the game.
Threw a season-high three touchdown passes in Tech's win over North Carolina while rushing for 53 yards to earn his fifth ACC Rookie of the Week award . . . Passed for just 98 yards in the Jackets' win over Maryland, but threw a four-yard scoring pass to Jonathan Smith for the game's only touchdown.
In his debut against Brigham Young, he completed 15 of 24 passes for 147 yards while rushing five times for 39 yards . . . Most impressive play was a 33-yard run down to the BYU four-yard line to set up a score . . . Was not enrolled for spring practice and was named the starter less than four weeks after arriving on campus.
