He also chased thunderstorms and breaking news for the ABC affiliate in nearby Topeka, Kan. After graduation he aimed his 1977 Buick Regal west along the Oregon Trail Auto Tour Route -- and headed for the Willamette Valley.

As a forecaster and reporter for nine years Eugene, he's covered everything from forest fires, the Thurston High School shootings, and the devastating Oregon floods in 1996. Tim has earned reporting awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, the Northwest Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and The Associated Press.

While working in Eugene he studied meteorology and obtained a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology with advanced standing from Mississippi State University. He loves the Northwest weather and says forecasting it can be tricky because the very different topography throughout the region. His favorite kind of weather is something we get a lot of here: morning fog and afternoon sunshine.
