Judge lets Occupy Augusta stay another week

November 29, 2011 by admin

"Attorney Lynne Williams filed a motion Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor on behalf of some Occupy Augusta participants, seeking a temporary restraining order to stop Capitol Police from closing down the Occupy Augusta encampment. The park is owned and managed by the state.

Williams also sued the state Department of Public Safety, saying requiring protesters to get a permit is unconstitutional."

Nine Arrested at Rally in Support of Occupy Augusta

November 27, 2011 by adamo

Nine people were arrested outside the Blaine House on Sunday afternoon taking action in support of the Occupy Augusta movement.

The LePage administration caved to Federal pressure this week, and Capitol Security sent word that the Occupy Augusta camp needed to clear out by Monday, November 28th. This call to clear the camp came unprovoked, as there had been no arrests or criminal activity at the Occupy Augusta camp in Capitol Park. The relationship between campers and members of Capitol Security had been respectful with no prior indication that the camp would need to be cleared out following the Thanksgiving holiday.

Occupy Augusta Camp Faces Eviction on Monday 11/28

November 26, 2011 by admin

On Friday, 11/25, Capitol Police have gave the Occupy Augusta camp an ultimatum.  The camp must either:

A) Get a permit from the city allowing one tent with no overnight sleeping.

or

B) Get cleared out and arrested.

There will be a rally tomorrow (Sunday the 26th) at noon to support the Augusta camp. What direct action will take place will depend on how many people show up. This is talk of direct action at the Blaine House. Also Monday evening the camp is trying to get as many people as possible to stand with them. "Curfew" is at 10:00.
