The  economic prosperity and growth of GDP of a developing nation like us, depends largely on the expansion of industry and manufacturing activities. Presently the booming Indian economy needs huge technical and skilled manpower specially in core engineering streams to implement the mega projects waiting in the pipeline, viz, Steel industry, Super thermal power station, metallurgical industries etc. Thus in the coming years there will be huge requirement of intelligent and competent Mechanical Engineers for Design, R & D, Manufacturing, Academic Research in modern technologies.

In this perspective, Hooghly Engineering and Technology College, has introduced Mechanical Engineering course from this year [2010-11]. To impart comprehensive practical training to our students, we have a modern and well equipped workshop consisting of    (i) Carpentry Shop;       (ii) Fitting Shop; (iii) Machine Shop; (iv) Pattern Shop; (v) Welding Shop; (vi) Foundry Shop;   (vii) Tin Smithy Shop.

The college has already established well equipped following state of the art laboratories for ME Department:-

1.     IC Engine Laboratory.

2.     Graphics Laboratory equipped with AutoCAD.

3.     Fluid Mechanics Laboratory.

4.     Strength of Materials Laboratory.

5.     Electrical Machines Laboratory.

The students of ME Department will enjoy the best facilities and equipment essential to learn the frontier technologies like Mechatronics, Automation, CAD – CAM, CIM, Robotics, CNC Machine, Industrial Engg, Tribology and Terotechnology, Computer Graphics and Solid Modeling, Analysis and Synthesis of Linkages and Machines, Optoelectronics and Laser material processing, Advanced Sensors and NDT etc in the days to come.
