Producer Bryan Singer has given the first indication that Wolverine could appear in a sequel to forthcoming franchise reboot X-Men: First Class.

Speaking exclusively to IGN, Singer explains, "I think there would definitely be room. I think it would be a very exciting thing. This universe has to establish itself first, but that would be a very interesting and fun thing."

As for releasing First Class without the hugely popular character, Singer claims he has no fears, adding, "It's a completely different film. Xavier and Magneto are important characters as well. It's just a different X-Men film. I obviously love the character, but you can't not do it just because he's not in it."

Who knows, however, with The Wolverine currently mired in development hell and searching for a director, we could see Hugh Jackman donning the adamantium claws for a First Class flick before heading to Japan.

But before that gets sorted, we've got an X-Men prequel to look forward to, and you can read all of Singer's thoughts on the project here.
