Sergio Aguero: Manchester City striker's knee injury to be assessed

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has played down concerns about the knee injury he sustained during Sunday's 3-2 win against Southampton.

The Argentina striker, 24, was carried off on a stretcher after collapsing following a challenge with Nathaniel Clyne after eight minutes.

He attempted to get to his feet only to drop to the turf once again.

"The studies I had done revealed no significant injury but it was a tough hit to my knee," Aguero tweeted.

"Tomorrow [Monday], the physicians will evaluate the time it will take for me to recover."

Man City not 100% - Roberto Mancini

Immediately after the game, manager Roberto Mancini had told BBC Sport: "At the moment we don't know. We need to wait for the scan in two days."

Aguero scored the winning goal in the 3-2 victory over QPR on the final day of last season to secure the Premier League title.

And after joining City in a £38m deal from Atletico Madrid last summer, he scored 23 Premier League goals in his debut season.

Aguero was replaced by Edin Dzeko during Sunday's game, with the Bosnian and fellow striker Carlos Tevez on the scoresheet and Samir Nasri scoring the eventual winner.

Mancini also has Mario Balotelli to call on as a striker, but having missed out on Manchester United-bound Robin van Persie, the Italian boss admitted he needed more players.

"We were not 100%," he said. "We did some mistakes but the big problem was we missed five or six chances when we were 1-0 and then it changed.

"We deserved to win the game. They didn't have any chances in the first half and we had four or five incredible chances.

"The first two or three games could be like this because we are not 100%."
