Two reefs sytmes in the Santa Rosa Sound and one in the Gulf of Mexico near the shorlines at Navarre Beach are being put into place. As each one is finished, they are open to divers and snorkelers.
This video, provided to the Daily News by the Okaloosa County Public Works department, shows the tugboat Monica Lee, which was sunk to create a reef in the Gulf of Mexico. After 6 months on the bottom the Monica Lee has become a haven for fish.
About 300 people gathered on the beach behind Crystal Villas condominiums for a memorial service for Jerry Dean "J.D." Lee, who died Monday while free diving off of the second sand bar in the Gulf of Mexico.
