This Truvelo on the A452 Collector Road has been knocked down deliberately as there is no damage to the barrier. The camera was installed at the same time as the speed limit
was cut from 70mph to just 50mph because of accidents occuring at the junction ahead caused by inattentive morons turning right without checking for oncoming traffic. As
usual the authorities have blamed speed for the accidents and as a result its no longer possible to drive perfectly safe at 70mph without having to lose a quarter of your
licence.
One down, 6 million to go
Here's a closeup of the damage. A pity these cameras can't detect people turning right into the path of oncoming traffic.
R.I.P. cash camera
This Truvelo in Buxton has also been knocked over.
Wrecked Truvelo
Here's another view. Was it an accident or did the 4x4 deliberately run it over?
Wrecked Truvelo
This camera is on the A40 near Cheltenham, known locally as 'Gatso Alley', maybe 'Gatso Graveyard' would be more appropriate.
All the Gatsos on this road are in 60mph limits even though this road is good for 70+ for much of its length. Three Gatsos eastbound have been
vandalised. This one has come off the worst, the other two are leaning at 45 degree angles. It's a bit of a co-incidence that three cameras
in a row are damaged, maybe someone got caught by them and decided to get revenge.
One knackered Gatso
Looking the other way. This Gatso couldn't have been demolished by accident because it fell the wrong way. Either someone reversed into it
(on purpose) or deliberately drove on the wrong side of the road.
Vandalism against Gatsos is increasing
There is a sticker on Gatsos saying 'This installation is alarmed to central control', but the pigs couldn't save this one. I wonder if there
really is an alarm fitted to them. It would take ages to reach the ones in the middle of nowhere.
Vandalised Gatso, minus the camera
This Gatso on the A1 in Scotland has also been knocked down. Most cameras have armco barriers around them to stop them
being driven into, it doesn't seem to work. Being placed in the middle of an overtaking straight makes it a prime target
for 'removal'. With the camera out of action drivers can now overtake in peace.
Another demolished Gatso
This closeup of the camera housing shows it was painted bright.
Gatsos are falling thick and fast
This Gatso in Tunbridge Wells has been toppled.
Wrecked Gatso
This Gatso on the A548 in Chester has been knocked down.
Gatso down
This Gatso on the A629 Elland Bypass is in a pathetic 50mph limit and deserves to the destroyed.
Wrecked Gatso
This Gatso on the A6144 near Carrington has been knocked over.
Wrecked Gatso
This Gatso on the A550 in Hawarden has been knocked down.
Gatso down
This is a closer view. The damage seems to be minimal and I'm surprised no one has forced open the camera housing.
Gatso down
This is the same camera and now someone has covered the flash with a box meaning night time pictures will come out dark.
This Gatso will only work during daylight
This Gatso on the A4074 just outside Reading is in a 50mph limit which will soon be cut to 40mph. Who knows if this had an influence on the camera's fate?
Out of order
Someone has sawn the camera housing from this Gatso and placed it on the ground.
Minimal damage, maximum frustration for the scamera partnership
This view of the back shows it hasn't been forced open so whoever did this made no attempt to extract the film (if it had one,
some cameras are just empty boxes or have dummy radars fitted).
Another Gatso out of action
This Gatso on the A142 near Chatteris has been struck by a vehicle and is now out of action.
Wrecked Gatso
This Gatso on the M11 is reported to be the most profitable in Britain. That was until someone decided to put it out of
action.
Wrecked Gatso
This is the camera a few years later and it has been vandalised again. This time it has been burnt.
This Gatso is now making no profit
This closeup view shows the wreckage and as usual with burnt Gatsos the roof has warped meaning the complete structure needs replacement.
Complete devastation
This Gatso on Lee Bank Middleway in Birmingham has been deliberately driven into and turned around. If it still works the only thing it will catch is bicycles speeding
down the hill on the footpath.
Another Gatso destroyed
This rear shot shows the angle its leaning at, even allowing for the steepness of the hill.
This Gatso is feeling a little dizzy
This closeup of the camera housing shows whatever struck it was tall.
Another Gatso destroyed
This Gatso on the A4041 near Birmingham was struck by a BMW which was being driven by a 16 year old.
Gatsos don't save lives
This is the same Gatso a week later. It was set alight and the remains of a tyre can be seen.
Burnt Gatso
This Gatso on the A47 in Thorney was struck by a lorry which apparently lost control on the bend. I thought Gatsos were
supposed to stop this from happening.
This is the second Gatso in the village to have been damaged
This is a closeup of the camera housing. Either someone has taken most of the innards or this was a dummy.
This Gatso will have to be replaced
This Gatso in Barnsley has been blown up. This method of destruction is becoming increasingly popular.
Blown up Gatso
This rear view shows the devastation caused by the blast.
Wrecked Gatso
This is another Gatso that was blown up in Barnsley. The damage is just as devastating.
Blown up Gatso
This is a front view of the last picture.
Blown up Gatso
This Gatso on the A3 near Kingston appears to have been driven into.
Damaged Gatso
This Gatso in South Wales was allegedly struck by a passing lorry. Its hard to say whether it was damaged by accident or on purpose, its just a shame it
didn't happen to a revenue placed camera such as those on fast dual carriageways.
Damaged Gatso in South Wales
This is a side view of the same camera and shows that is was twisted as well as damaged. Drivers have nothing to worry as the camera is pointing
away from the road but the occupiers of the house should definitely be worried as this camera is still emitting radar.
Would you live in a house which is being continually blasted with radar?
This Gatso in Derby has identical damage to the one above.
Damaged Gatso
This Gatso on the A4130 in Nettlebed has been driven into.
Damaged Gatso
This is a closeup of the camera housing. Like the last few pictures, it has the tell tale crease where it was struck.
Damaged Gatso
Another Gatso which is pointing away from the road. This one near Huddersfield was thought to have been struck by a JCB.
This Gatso got off lightly
The same Gatso a few months later and its now pointing towards the road. The vandals have been back and painted obscene language on it. They have also painted
over the flash.
Someone has taken a dislike to this camera
This Truvelo between Wetherby and Walton has been turned sideways so now the scamera partnership will have tons of pictures of a field.
Twisted Truvelo
This Gatso on the A6 in Kegworth has been turned to face away from the road. As this camera uses strips to measure the speed
it will still work, only the scamera partnership will find all the pictures will be of trees and bushes.
Twisted Gatso
This Gatso on the A406 near Brent Cross has been turned round to face the bushes. Minimum damage but maximum loss of revenue.
Twisted Gatso
This Gatso on the A41 at Brent Cross has been turned round. Whilst there is no physical damage it has stopped it from doing its job.
Twisted Gatso
This Gatso in Preston has only just been installed and has already been twisted.
Twisted Gatso
The camera housing is missing from this scamera on the A561 in Liverpool.
Hat stand
These two revenue generators near Preston have had their camera housings removed, and for a very good reason too. They are situated on a dual carriageway
with an underposted 50mph limit. They have been like this for some time and no attempt has been made to repair them.
Pair of hat stands near Preston
This Gatso is also in Preston. This one appears to have been sawn off.
Sawn off Gatso
Another cameraless Gatso. I witnessed several drivers braking as I took this picture even though the camera was missing.
Another Gatso with a stolen camera housing
This Gatso isn't far from the one above and has been attacked in the same way. Notice how the signs are placed in line
with the camera in order to obscure it.
Beheaded Gatso
This sawn off Gatso on the Stanningley Bypass is placed just before the speed limit drops from 70mph to 60mph. From a revenue point of view it would have
made more sense to have it just inside the 60mph limit.
Sawn off Gatso
This is another Gatso on the same stretch of road a couple of years later.
Another wrecked Gatso
Here's the camera housing.
Camera housing
Here's yet another Gatso on the Stanningley Bypass to have been destroyed. They are falling thick and fast here.
Wrecked Gatso
This Gatso in the heart of Brunstromia has been sawn off. The location is the A549 in Mynydd Isa.
Wrecked Gatso
The camera housing has been sawn off from this Gatso on the A420 near Oxford.
Beheaded Gatso
This Gatso on the A1068 in Northumberland has had the camera housing sawn off.
Sawn off Gatso
Yet another beheaded Gatso. I wonder what happens to all the cameras?
Beheaded Gatso
This Gatso on the A505 has also had the camera housing removed. A yellow bag has been placed over it to guard against
shock.
Beheaded Gatso
This Gatso in Milton Keynes has been sawn off at the post. The damage has been taped over to prevent electric shock.
Another poorly Gatso
The camera housing has been sawn off this Gatso on the A46. By looking at the straightness of the road in the distance
its easy to see why someone wanted to disable this camera. Its located just before a crossroads where vehicles are pulling
out in front of fast moving traffic. The cause of these accidents lies with drivers who fail to judge the speed of others rather
than those who are speeding.
Sawn off Gatso
This beheaded Gatso on the A16 has been painted with the words THIEVES MOTORIST REVENGE.
An angry motorist has taken revenge on this Gatso
This Gatso on the A15 is the latest in a series of beheaded Gatsos in Lincolnshire.
Beheaded Gatso
The camera housing has disappeared from this newly installed Gatso.
Another Gatso with a missing camera housing
This Gatso on the B482 at Lane End has had the camera housing taken off.
Cameraless Gatso
This Gatso on the A1 in Scotland has had the camera housing sawn off.
Beheaded Gatso
This Gatso is a few miles from the one above and appears to have been attacked at the same time. The blue camera behind
is a Traffic Master and isn't a speedtrap.
Beheaded Gatso
This Gatso in Staffordshire was vandalised soon after a local newspaper announced it was a fake. You can compare a real one
by looking at the picture above.
Even fake Gatsos aren't immune to vandalism
