A Branson museum is about to have not one, but two Batmobiles on display for visitors’ enjoyment.

A still unnamed auto museum planned to open later this month in the downstairs space at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater will features cars made famous through television and films.

“It’s going to be a fun museum with a lot of different cars,” General Manager Jeff Hurst said. “It’s going to be a rotating exhibit with all of the cars for sale. If you see the Batmobile and you really like it, you can buy it.”

The museum features both the 1960s vintage Batmobile, and the 1989 version from the film starring Michael Keaton.

There are cars from “The Fast & the Furious,” “Men in Black,” “Herbie, the Love Bug,” “Cars,” “Inception” and more.

The collection, owned by the Velvet family, has grown for 30 years, Hurst said.

“This museum offers a unique opportunity because of the Velvet family’s celebrity artifacts,” he said. “It’s not only cars but also artifacts like costuming.”

For example, the museum will also have Batman and Catwoman costumes, and both the car and costume from “RoboCop.”

The museum was planned for an earlier opening before the Feb. 29 tornado damaged the building, Hurst said.

Contractors have been working to clean up the 30,000-square-foot space and are in the final stages of getting the museum ready for the public.

In addition to the movie cars, there will be some classic hot rods on display.

One planned exhibit features some cars that aren’t in the best shape.

Hurst said the Velvets had several cars in the Branson Auto Museum at the old Engler Block that were severely damaged during the tornado. He said a special memorial section is planned for those cars.

Hurst said the museum should appeal to movie and car lovers.

Although the complete details have yet to be finalized, Hurst said the museum is scheduled to be opened from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. every day with an “affordable” admission price.
