AWCS: Regional projects market sees cause for optimism

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, April 10 - 2012 at 09:42
  • PRESS RELEASE

There is cause to be optimistic about the region's construction sector. A revival of the projects market is expected in the UAE, with some $75bn worth of construction projects planned between now and 2016.

For contractors looking to broaden their presence there has never been a better time to look for business in the Middle East with multi-billion dollar construction and infrastructure programs now gathering pace.

Arabian World Construction Summit (AWCS 2012) to be held on the 20 - 23 May 2012 at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa, Abu Dhabi will examine these issues and more and remains the only place to access the region's leading project owners and leading contractors.

Qatar, boosted by its ongoing plans for the 2022 world cup, continues its ambitious infrastructure development programme with an estimated total of $600bn being invested on developing infrastructure over the next decade.

Projects in rail, roads, hotels and sports stadia will all provide exciting opportunities for the industry over the coming years.

Saudi Arabia remains the largest projects market in the region - with over $119bn of construction projects to be awarded before 2016.

A burgeoning real estate and transport infrastructure development agenda is underway in Iraq, with spending rising to $35bn in 2012.

The emerging markets of North Africa will also feature prominently at the 2012 Summit.

In Libya stalled projects will be revived and new projects will be tendered as the country seeks to rebuild and improve its infrastructure.

There are still challenges facing the construction sector in the coming year. Market share and competition has seen a shift from West - East, whilst faith in the project tendering process has been tested by an increasing number of aborted or stalled projects.

Arabian World Construction Summit (AWCS 2012) will examine these issues and more and remains the only place to access the region's leading project owners and leading contractors all at one meeting.
