Boeing’s third flight-test 747-8 Freighter has completed a series of hot-weather tests in Arizona, experiencing temperatures above 105 degrees, according to Randy Tinseth, vice president of marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
“Basically we wanted to evaluate the capability of the 747-8′s new air-conditioning system during ground operations and flight,” Tinseth wrote on his blog. He said initial data showed the airplane performed well and that hot-weather testing for certification would come later.
Tinseth also noted that the 747-8 fleet reached 500 hours last week, with a flight of the second airplane, RC521, out of Victorville, Calif. See a photo of that flight in this gallery.
