TV heartthrob Dean Geyer has quit Neighbours.
The former Australian Idol favourite is leaving the long-running soap next month after a year with the program, to pursue a music career.
His departure comes after he admitted to going through a personal rollercoaster of a year where he became engaged to, and then split from, Lisa Origliasso of pop group The Veronicas.
"Being on TV every day does not help that much when you have to deal with that stuff," Geyer, 21, said.
"It has been a really weird year for me. It has been really up in some areas and really down in others."
Geyer, a committed Christian, also admitted he had struggled with some of the sexy storylines involving his character, Ramsay St rock and roller Ty Harper.
"In some instances my personal beliefs maybe were contradicting with what the character was doing," he said.
"I am not saying I was forced to do anything, but looking at the character I don't necessarily agree with everything he did."
But Geyer said the storylines had no influence over his decision to quit the soap.
"I was fairly happy with how Ty turned out, I really enjoyed playing Ty, but I needed a lifestyle change."
Geyer said he hoped to record an album next year.
He also confirmed he was not seeing anyone.
"I am single and am definitely open for anyone who wants to come and sweep me off my feet," he said.
