A Rip Roarin' Giveaway!

I went back to Quilted Works ...twice in one day was very fun...and got another of these amazing little seam rippers as a giveaway. The rubber end grabs up those stray threads that we all hate to pick out.

You don't have to be a follower, you don't have to tell me your favorite thing to use a seam ripper on, but you do have to leave me a comment. The staff at Quilted Works are so nice and they have an online store, too--check them out by clicking HERE.

This giveaway ends on October 20th, at 6 p.m. PST.

THERE'S ALWAYS RULES:
  1. Leave a short and sweet comment.
  2. Make sure I can contact you if you're a noreply blogger. Typing out your email address like this helps avoid spammers: iblog at aol dot com. If I can't contact you, you can't win.
  3. Only ONE entry per person
  4. I'll mail it anywhere.
  5. Entries after 6 p.m. PST on October 20th will not be included in the giveaway.

New Tool, Winner Winner!

I won some fabric from Debby Kratovil Quilts and a $25 gift certificate from Quilted Works. Such a lucky week for me! Maybe I should visit a casino and see if my luck holds out. Nah...I'm smart enough to know that it isn't the lucky people's money that builds those beautiful gambling places and that me winning anything is a rare event.

I used the Quilted Works certificate to buy a little more Halloween fabric
(I never have enough, of course.)

There was a new fun tool at Quilted Works...
(I never need a ripper, so this info is for other people--LOL!)
This little seam ripper not only rips out those mistakes
that sometimes happen, but also has a rubber part that
brushes those annoying little threads away.
I love it...I mean I WOULD love it if I ever made mistakes.

A Sweet Gift

I received a little package in the mail a couple of days ago that included a sweet message written on a beautiful card. Katherine at Sew Me Something Good sent me this sweet little needle case. She designed it using some vintage linen with gorgeous embroidery on it and added some purple fabric (guess she somehow figured out my favorite color.) It even came with those needles on PURPLE foil that reminded me of the ones in my mom's and grandmother's sewing boxes. I loved it! Thank you, Katherine!

Finally, my needles have a home.

Leafs Me Happy - My Blocks

Cherry from Cherry Blossom's Quilting Studio is hosting the Leafs Me Happy blog hop which is
getting us all motivated and excited to get ready for the Fall season.
Thanks Cherry!

Thanks Madame Samm for creating the hops we're all loving!

Fall makes me think of warm and cozy flannel, so I paper pieced a few flannel blocks, sewed them together, added a backing and started quilting it....

and I hated it!
I didn't like the thread I used, the stitching, the colors or anything else about it. NOTHING! Maybe my puppies will like it. I believe the rules said I need to name my project...hmmmm...how about...

A Cozy Mess

Moving on....
I'd never made a Dresden Plate of any kind, so I thought I'd give it a try (thanks, Jane, for your encouragement.) The Dresden turkey applique was inspired by one I found at Missouri Quilt Co.
I even did some French knots (new to me) for the eyes.

Dressed For Dinner

I was wandering around one of my favorite local quilt shops, Fabric Boutique, looking for some inspiration when I came across a whole slew of these cute Garden Patch Cats by Helene Knott. I made Gourdo Gato and though he still needs some more stitching and a few other Garden Patch Cats to join him, he's pretty darn cute.

While visiting Missouri Quilt Co. I came across a video (HERE) for an easy pattern using a Layer Cake.  It's an easy quilt and didn't involve major math or thinking skills, which worked for me since my creative juices just weren't zinging me with anything.

A few of my blocks
This is ready for the batting, backing, quilting, and binding. I think it will be a perfect quilt to snuggle with my grandsons....

Monkey Boy Snuggle Quilt

I was having a really hard time feeling satisfied with my Leafs Me Happy projects, especially after A Cozy Mess was...well, a mess.

Thankfully an amazing blogger inspired me by
sending me to a pattern found at McCall's Quilting.

It's a slice of pie--how cool is that!
I heard that the amazing blogger who gave me the inspirational shove will also have a slice of pie on her Leafs Me Happy day. No clues from me who it is, but keep an eye out for her version and let me know when you spot it by leaving a comment to get an extra chance at my giveaway.

To make this next block, I ran some fabric through my inkjet printer (using freezer paper) with a graphic and a family recipe. If you don't use special paper (like I did), do not use steam when ironing or it will become a smeared mess (like mine did) and don't even think about washing it. I've since bought some really cool Fabric Paper (Blumenthal Craft at Amazon) for my WICKED project and it stayed in when I ran it under water. Love it!

This is my mother-in-law's Swedish Apple Pie recipe--I have no idea if it is really Swedish or why it is called that--and is a family favorite. It's easy and really good, mainly because it has tons of sugar and butter in it--not a health conscious dessert at all!

I put them both together to get this little wall hanging:

A Is For Swedish Apple Pie

The recipe:

4-5 apples peeled & diced
Press apples in bottom of pan.

Mix together and sprinkle over the apples:
1 Tbs. sugar
1 Tbs. cinnamon

Mix together:
1½ stick margarine, melted
1½ cup sugar
Pinch of salt
1½ cup flour
1 egg
¾ cup chopped pecans (optional)

Spread mixture over the apples. (It will be really thick.)
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
Serve plain, with ice cream, or whipped cream.

Now it's time for you to head on over to the other Leafy creations.
Thanks for stopping by!

Of Course I'll Drop Everything For You....

....I said to my five year old grandson (who's almost six) a few days ago.  He'd asked me to sew him a volleyball quilt a long time ago, but I'd never got around to it. But, when those big brown eyes looked at me the other day and said he'd "been waiting since I was four" to get his volleyball quilt, of course I went right to work on it.

I had some blocks already sewn up from the last volleyball quilt I made, so I handed them to him and told him to design his own quilt. He loved that the blocks stuck to my wall and had a great time moving them around.

This little monkey has a tendency to get distracted and bounced out of the room more than he was in, but he got all the pieces on the wall and was really proud of himself.

It's finished and ready for him to be wrapped up in and snuggled by all of us who love him so much.

Now, it's back to what consumes
most of my free time...
and I love it!
