Shared publicly -Wildlife experts are worried that climate change, overfishing and bad weather might be driving down the numbers of puffins breeding in the UK.
The National Trust has begun its five-yearly puffin census on the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast, counting breeding pairs of the seabirds as they sit on their nests in old rabbit burrows.

Shared publicly -The 70th anniversary of the Dambusters raid will be marked with a flypast featuring a Lancaster bomber, two Spitfires and two Tornado fast jets.
The famous aircraft will fly over the dam on Derwent Reservoir in Derbyshire at around lunchtime and then over nearby Chatsworth House where the public will be gathered to watch.
Led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson the crews in the 19 aircraft made up of a coalition of the willing from Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and one American, practised dropping the untested bouncing bomb from 60ft over the dam in the Peak District before flying on the actual mission on the evening of May 16, 1943.

Watching the anniversary on BBC yesterday evening I was reminded of when I served in the Royal Signals 1964-1968. For most of that time I was stationed in Detmold which is only a couple of hours away from the Mohne Dam. There was a rumour circulating that on a clear day the wreck of a Lancaster could be seen from the dam. Being young and naive (19 at the time) myself and a couple of mates jumped in my Opel Rekord and off we went. Off course there is no wreck to be seen but just being there gave that feeling that something very special had taken place there. Since that time I have always had a special interest in the Dam Busters and seeing the Lancaster at a air display is always something special.
Last Sunday the one remaining Lancaster was taking part in the Dam Busters 70th anniversary celebration at the Brooklands Museum, I was a few miles away from my home in Bracknell at the time but did see it flying past in the distance. When I returned home my wife told me that she was in the garden and she heard this tremendous roar and she looked up and saw the Lancaster flying directly over our garden, no doubt quite a bit than higher than 30ft but very low. That will probably never happen again so you can imagine my disappointment at missing it.

It is not known what the exact reason for the ban is but the new film, conceived and written by 66-year-old Bowie and directed by Floria Sigismondi, does feature an array of religious imagery and could be accused of "taking a pop" at religion.
