X Factor twins John and Edward 'racked with guilt' over Lucie Jones outcome

Monday, 9 November 2009

 John and Edward Grimes

John and Edward Grimes

Twins John and Edward Grimes have been racked with guilt after knocking Lucie Jones out of The X Factor, she revealed today.

Welsh singer Jones, 18, joined the twins, nicknamed "Jedward", in the bottom two in front of the biggest audience the ITV talent show has ever received.

She said the 18-year-old Irish boys, who have been criticised for their lack of singing talent, felt guilty about staying in the competition but, though she admitted to feeling "gutted" and "upset" about leaving, Jones insisted the twins deserved their place on the show.

Jones also vowed to continue with a singing career, saying: "There must be some people that like me".

The hopeful added that her mentor Dannii Minogue had been "the best" and that she did not blame her song choice - This Is Me from Disney film Camp Rock - on her exit from the competition.

Jones performed the song on the film-themed episode of the competition on Saturday night, which attracted a peak audience of 13.6 million.

She learnt she and the twins had received the fewest votes on last night's live show, which featured performances by former winner Leona Lewis and US chart-toppers Black Eyed Peas.

The show, which reeled in a record peak audience of 16.6 million viewers, saw the two acts fight it out in a sing-off, in which Jones sang Whitney Houston's One Moment In Time, and John and Edward sang Robbie Williams' Rock DJ.

Simon Cowell, who has criticised John and Edward for their lack of talent in the past, voted to keep them on the show as did their mentor Louis Walsh, while Minogue and Cheryl Cole voted for Jones.

The decision went to "deadlock", meaning the matter was decided by the public vote.

Jones said she was not bitter towards John and Edward, however, as it was not their decision to knock her out of the competition.

She said: "John and Edward, bless them, they're the nicest kids... they said 'we feel guilty' and I said 'why, it's not your fault?' It's not their fault that they're still in the competition. They're still in the competition because people want them to be there. More people wanted to see them next week than wanted to see me, and that's fine and they should not feel guilty because they deserve to be there."

She added that she thought John and Edward were upset about seeing her go.

She said: "It's difficult to know what John and Edward are thinking, but they're so happy and upbeat about everything and to see them upset because of me, I really felt for them last night because they did feel bad and it's just a shame that external sources have made them feel as if they should feel like that."

She also defended Minogue who apparently slighted John and Edward at the end of last night's show when she said 'I just wish all the good singers good luck in the singing competition'.

Jones said: "I honestly don't think it was a jibe at John and Edward. I don't know the meaning behind it but she's not the type of person to have a go at another act when it's not their fault that they're there."

On her song choice she said: "It's a massive film. It's huge in the States; all kids have seen it. The fact people don't know a song shouldn't mean that people don't vote for you. I have complete faith in Dannii and she never picked a bad song for me."

She added that she was feeling better about the decision today.

She said: "I was gutted. You know someone has to go so you prepare yourself but it's a shock to the system, a change of environment and situation. Dermot said my name and it was finished just like that. It's just upsetting.

"But I'm all right. I've had a good sleep and I'm having a McDonald's so I'm all right.

"I'm looking at it from a new light and it's a new day and I just have to look at all the positives of the experience and it's just been the most amazing thing I've ever done so I'm just feeling good about it."

On her plans for the future she said: "I've given my best. People have enjoyed my performance because they've kept me in for a couple of weeks and that gives me great confidence to carry on and to make a good career for myself in the music industry because there must be some people that like me and I would love to carry on making music so they can enjoy it."

i was well shocked when lucie was in the bottom 2 coz she rocked this is me! i was annoyed when simon said who would i rather see despite what he has said about both the twins and the great comments he gave lucie when she finished! i think she will become a great singer and she will come back to sing on x factor and we will cheer for her return! i was happy to see her this week during the charity single! i think jedward n lloyd need to go coz both are not that good and they are knocking the better singers like lucie n rachel! im kinda hopin stacey atleast gets to the final 3 coz she is good aswell!

I honeslty think that 'jedward' are improving every week.

They should not be getting all this stick. I hate it when you hear the crowd booing. yes, you may not like them but booing it taking it a step too far.

I think they ae very googlooking too :D

If Joe does not win then John&edward to win for me.

Thanks :D

Out of all the female singers Rachel and Lucie were the best. Why is Stacy Solomon still in ? She's not that great. And ALL of the male singers are far better than Jedward. Sure, they're cute and quirky but can't sing worth a damn. I thought this was a TALENT CONTEST for people who could sing ?? What a FARCE/JOKE.

Seems SIMON either can't spot REAL talent or has an ulterior motive. I mean after all... he let that country bumpkin loser Kevin Skinner win on America's Got NO Talent.

It's just a show. It will not make or break these contestants - Lucie will go on to have a fine career, and the Twins are so enterprising they will probably move on to something totally different. This will have been their entertainment career. Whatever they move on to will work for them - they are resourceful and take chances.

I do not think that the contestants should be able to speak to the press whilst competing on this show. Interviews after they leave is alright, but not during the show. They should not be able to comment on themselves, or anything to do with the show. It is very off-putting to see John and Edward being discussed so fully in the press with magazine articles in their favour. I am not against them, but it is making me more like thinking the whole show is a fix, and I never wanted to think that. It has in the past been a magical thing for someone to win by popular vote. Please do not ruin it Simon Cowell by allowing your contestants to comment to the press. After all, it is a singing competition. from Margaret Brown

Love watching the show ... on the net ... love the twins and thought their version of Ghost Busters was spot on ... also thought the weakest singing of the night was Lloyd Daniels.

Lucie was the best. Great voice, loads of talent and very pretty! She got better each week. Predict she will be a big star in the future.
Don't give up Lucie-learn by this experience-you've got what it takes.
Good luck to you.

The public did not pick up the phone and vote for Lucie and out she went - she was not the best female singer in the competition, Graziella from Miss Frank was but she went with the groups. We need a male winner this year and the standard of talent put into the final 12 was way below the level of 2008 and 2007. The over 25's are and were always going to be the strongest category and if is Simon's good fortune that he happens to be their mentor and it something the public have to accept.

The twins should not be blamed as lou lou walsh put them in in the first place also the fact they can't sing or dance it was a perfect chance to spare them any more performances by getting rid last night but the PR wheel is proving to much for sir cowell to ignore this has opened a can of worms which I dare say bad publicty can be generated in to veiwing figures. It's a shame that Lucie has gone terrific singer I gave up watching last week at shock exit of Racheal the show has now proved thats its fixed for al la cowells acts to win. I don't watch the show now anyway but no doubt here all the goings on with the media frenzy, so sadly will be kept informed. can't wait for celebrity get me out of here to start as I do need my fix of reality shows.

yeah yeah yeah. no way are those two sillt talentless muppets sorry about seeing the charming lucie go. and hasn't simon reallly shown jusy how much he has beenplaying the audience for these last few weeks. how many times did he decry the twins and then when they were clearly the least talented of the two, he opted out. does he really expect the sudience to believe that he diddn't know who would go if it went to the public vote. did someone castrate smon lately? if so how long will it take for the bits to grow back?? i can tell u, not until the final night. what a big con this series has become.

I really can't express my feelings on how gutted i am that Lucie went out of the xfactor like she did. I blame simon cowell for what happened but at the end of the day it's down to the public vote. If you are reading this Lucie. i thought your performance was outstanding & we all love you xxx

Why Chantelle should take good look at herself

How ugly were those close-up pictures of Chantelle Houghton's post-baby bulging belly this week? Because the photos - in which Chantelle's lumpy midriff was repeatedly exposed as it slipped out from under her tiny vest while she exercised in the park - usually only mean one of two things.
