The NHL cancelled the first 82 regular season games on Thursday. On Friday, commissioner Gary Bettman flew to Toronto for talks with the players' union.

The ongoing work stoppage has forced the NHL to cancel the first two weeks of the regular season, wiping 82 games off the schedule and pushing opening night back to Oct. 25. It’s the third time in 18 years a lockout has forced the cancellation of NHL games.
